[Php-java-bridge-users] running as daemon on debian

The service script shipped with the archive does not work on my debian
machine. I don't have as much knowledge of linux as I'd like, so could
anybody give me some advice?

The "deamon" command used by the script is not available on my machine, and
neither is /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions.

Has anybody on the list already written a startup script for debian?
