Hi,

what you describe is a bug in the new 2.0 protocol.  Your second example
should create a PHP Array if run in PHP 4.  (It works correctly in PHP5,
see tests.php5 folder).

I am going to fix this asap.  In the meantime please use PHP 5 or use
the PHP/Java Bridge 1.0.8 for your tests.
