Basically the problem is only encountered when trying to download several items that have the same file name in a short period of time. The numbering system that automactically renames files that have the same filename can't go above 49. See below

..., (47)file.txt, (48)file.txt, (49)file.txt, At this point, you will get a error for every time you attempt to download another file of the same name.

To recreate this, just simply do a search for a common file name so that you get max results (readme.txt or file_id.diz will both work). Highlight a big group of the search results, at least a hundred and then select quick download. Once phex downloads the 49th file, phex will no longer be able to continue until you either change the temp directory or remove some of the unsecessful downloads. And this error can be very much a pain in the ass and the animated window does not make things any better.

Phex only tries to create a file 50 times.. if that failes it gives up...
Not sure exactly for how many users 50 tries would not be enough, but for me it seems to be a reasonable high number..
I'm not sure what you are up to, but I guess for your needs going to 100 would not help much either..

The problem for me was not the fact that phex would not retry more then 50 times but mainly the whole problem with how phex would respond to me once 50 was reached. The error message windows will pop up for each attempted time that phex would not retry. So if your had tried 70 then you would get 20 of these damn windows piled up on top of each other and with the fact that the window is animated it makes it a much slower process of simply closing windows. And even after all the windows are finally closed, the problem is still not resolved since the very next attempt you get hit with more of these windows.

Also maybe since I am not too smart when comes to computers, will you please explain to me what the retry limit on a single file has to do with a group of 49 files that are named according to how many of them exist?

So maybe it's not a bug. If it's not a bug then it most surely is an example of a poor user interface. I agree that something needs to be done about the windows that pile up on top of each other.
