I'm updating the project again...
Too busy with other stuff (translation of the Gentoo docs among other things) lately to spend much time on IRM-ms but one point which almost got me screeming in frustration was installing IRM-ms on my Gentoo laptop. I'll work on that some more.
Among new features coming up in the next release is:
- Splitting network devices and computers in Setup and dropdown lists.
- Handling of bulk licenses. At work we run a smallish mail service for clients. I need to keep track of how many email licenses we have, but I don't install them all myself. So I "fixed" this problem in IRM-ms.
An alpha patch for email support is available from the download site. This is a very, very, *very* crude patch and should be used at your own risk. Read the release note on the package before using.
I'm taking the first steps to make the project read a support mailbox. I'm having problems with our mail server not recognizing imap_header info. A very local solution is in place soonish. It'll take a while for it to arrive on the site.
Various bug fixes in this release.
Generally should work as intended now. Binary attachments have been fixed and validated. We are experiencing some problems with moving IRM-ms from one server (RH 8) to another (OpenBSD 3.4). If anyone can confirm this I'd be gratefull. Even more so if you've got a fix for it.
I've release IRM-ms 1.6-pre1 for general testing.
Lots of changes not least in database tables, and IRM is now using encrypted passwords ... (so you need to change all passwords from within IRM). Add the Gandalf account from irm.xxx.sql file to users to be able to log in. Password is gandalf.
This is mostly a test release. Next release (pre-2 probably) will focus on bug fixing - I feel that Phenix will take off shortly.
The major feature of the CVS version is screen dumps. You can add screen dumps to trackings and followups. Although this is still unvalidated in CVS and a bit buggy.
I've redesigned the user management screen a bit to scale better (using dropdowns rather than a potentially gargantuan table) although the basic design still is cumbersome. Also there is now "Software speciality" added to user (tech) accounts. The idea is to automagically assign incoming software related issues to a tech - although this isn't implemented in the CVS.... read more
I've been updating this project quite a bit.
Todays updates provide facilities for lending media to your users (as well as those computers, and phones already in there). I've also removed (albeit inellegantly) the horrible restriction on the number of devices - you can now have 10 000 000 devices of each type, which should be enough for most people I think. You can also track tickets against software, so you can plan what educational measures you need to take against what piece of software. And bug fixes, and no doubt new bugs as well.... read more
Realistically PhenixSP will produce something in a few weeks.
My IRM patches are coming to an end, and I plan to start developing material on this project during the spring of 2004.
