Version XXV released

XXV has several search improvements and static eval bugfixes. Special thanks go to Fabrice Lecouvey, who studied the static evaluation and caught and reported several well-hidden bugs.

Both source code package and Win32 build is now available in the Files section.

freechess.org accounts resurrected

The old Phalanx computer accounts on freechess.org (FICS) have been resurrected.

Account rusalka plays on a very easy level (-e 80) and the blitz rating is around 1000. http://www.ficsgames.org/cgi-bin/search.cgi?player=rusalka&action=Finger

Account pikozrout was originally a full strength one, but now I've decided to limit the nodes per seconds to 10000, so that it's strong enough, but still can be beaten by humans in blitz. Also see http://www.ficsgames.org/cgi-bin/search.cgi?player=pikozrout&action=Finger

Nice article on Phalanx easy levels, NPS limit and randomization

Here is a few weeks old article published on the chess.com forums by a chess.com user nicknamed EscherehcsE. The article discusses the new easy levels as introduced in Phalanx XXIII and even suggests creating stronger non-blundering easy levels using combinations of values of the new commandline options -z (randomization) and -n (nodes per second limit).

Windows version

Jim Ablett graciously made a windows version of Phalanx-XXII. The package contains both a Windows executable and the modified sources to be build with MS Visual C++.

He also reports that his version is competing in Olivier Deville's Chesswar on Category C: http://loirechecs.chez-alice.fr/chesswar

If you use Windows, go grab your copy of Phalanx now: http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/phalanx

Of course, the old Unix only release is still available. I haven't yet tested Jim Ablett's build on Linux or BSD, stay tuned for that.
