    Greetings.

    Well, hopefully this is the start of something significantly better than it is right now ;)

    I've put this release on Sourceforge with the hope that the code will be useful to others.  Please feel free to use it in your GPL projects.  I'd like to hear about it if any of it is at all useful.

    I'll use this spot to point out some stuff about what pgVB is intended to be, what it is right now, and what problems I see ahead.

    pgVB is intended to make life easier for people with Win32 workstations who work with a PostgreSQL database.  I don't know how many people that is besides me.  At this stage I am using a recent build (01162001) for browsing tables when coding ASP pages.  It does make life a little easier..

    The immediate intention is to get the query builder in place.  That will increase the usefulness of pgVB immensely (again, at least for me..) as it will allow me to try out queries graphically.

    The priority after query building is schema manipulation - graphical CREATE and DROP.

    The lowest priority at least for me is direct manipulation of table data.  It's needed, but not right away.

    Problems I see ahead are as follows in no particular order;

    - I am relying on the backwards-compatibility of the PostgreSQL 6.5 ODBC driver with PostgreSQL 7.0+
    - Application speed seems poorly optimized and looks to get worse - there are too many calls to the remote database for routine functions
    - I am not an expert programmer

    That's about all for now -- watch this space.

      OK, the query builder is in place and there's a binary release available.

      I still think there is major work to be done in the query builder but it should be functional now.
