Hello list, First - PgArc is very cool. Thanks to the developers. Where are all the users? Why isn't this list jumping? I am not even an ESRI users and yet I think PgArc is excellent. Now my real question - I'm getting an error 6, 'overflow' when I connect to a postgis database which has a table with a 6 digit srid (e.g. 102758) however tables haveing a short srid (e.g. 1 or -1) are fine. Hi Richard, how are things? Thanks for the feedback. Several folks on the project had backed away over the past few months for various reasons. We have had some bigger plans but were waiting for ole db support for postgresql before proceeding further and then we were going to follow up with some greater advertising. I'm glad you find the current incarnation useful - I agree that it effectively fills a gap. The developers who originally put this together were gracious enough to release it open source to us. What we really need are some more developers to help integrate ole db functionality into a v2 of this extension. I'm not familiar with the error you mentioned but have registered it as a bug. I suspect that the SRID variables just aren't bit enough. I'll take a look when time permits. Could you also give me any idea of others options/features that you think would make this a killer app? Let me know if you'd like admin or technician access to this project - I just need your sourceforge account id. Nicolas/SCOT guys - was this version limited to SRID=-1? Hey Tyler. Good to hear from you! I'm not much of an ESRI user, but I see the PgArc extension is not only a useful tool for ESRI folks, but as a real boost to the postgis community in general. You mention integrating ole db functionality in a 2nd version - are you referring to basic ole db functionality in e.g. ArcGIS 9.0, or are you referring to the forthcoming Data Interoperability Extension? (Probably a dumb question, but I'm not very familiar with the ArcGIS stuff). If PgArc is not already using the basic ole db, then how does it work now and what changes do you envision? Are there archives of the developer discussions that might answer some of these rather basic questions? Partilcularly for those looking for an SDE replacement - having database access from ArcMap is critical. > You mention integrating ole db functionality in > a 2nd version - are you referring to basic ole db functionality in > e.g. ArcGIS 9.0, or are you referring to the forthcoming Data > Interoperability Extension? Ideally it would use the libpq.dll for direct call to the database without ODBC. I'm not sure how far we got. Interestingly enough, I just installed the extension and can't get it to work. Hmm..it's been a while and have since upgraded to ArcMap 9.0. Have you tried it at all? Tyler |

Yes, I've tried it with both ArcGIS (ArcView) 8.3 and 9.0 connecting to native windows postgresql 8.0 beta3 and postgis 0.9. Performance was very good on 12,000 polygons. I was able to query, thematically map, join, etc. That's why I am surprised that people aren't jumping all over it. So it's got to be compiled VB, right? And can not simply be run from the VBA "macro" interpreter?
