#51 Please provide a point release with all fixes from GIT

GIT has several fixes to allow building with current compilers and updated dependency projects (e.g. Octave).

Doing a point release which includes all these fixes, so downstream distributions no longer have to pick single commits or package an unreleased version, would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
