No it is not, you should receive a max of $maxretry times a mail if you ask
for it.
However I also got notified by my users that this behaviour occurs.
That's why yesterday I committed some new stuff that should solve the
problem you described.
If you update to the HEAD revision of the CVS-tree you will need to adjust
your database.
you will need to add a column comp_size to the backuplog table. However if
there is no crucial data in your database, the easiest
thing you can do is drop the database and create it again with database.sql
