OK, I've started to commit.  Before I committed anything on the
PDC_REFACTOR branch, I did a cvs tag pre_AS_messing, just in case I
foul anything up badly ;-)

Time for a quick poll; can we reach a consensus on whitespace policy?
(I probably already asked this.)  My vote is for no hard tabs
anywhere:
