Hi Sean If the PPM on SourceForge is the one I built for Aldo (I think it is) it was built and tested on Windows 2000 with ActiveState Perl 5.6.1 build 630. I have tested the PPM on Win XP but not 95. One question, did you do ppm remove Win32-GUI before you installed the new version ? If not it may be a good idea to remove the module (via ppm remove) and then re-install it. Unfortunately I don't have a 95 box to test the code on. I do have an ME test box so if I get time this weekend I'll try it there and see if it works. Hope this helps Paul ******************************************************************************* Important. My message is unclearly worded. I didn't mean that I couldn't get PPM to install it (the actual .ppd parses fine), but that Win32::GUI no longer works once I install 0.0.665. This is the error message I get: Can't load 'F:/Perl/site/lib/auto/Win32/GUI/GUI.dll' for module Win32::GUI: load_file:A device attached to the system is not functioning at F:/Perl/lib/DynaLoader.pm line 200. And this is my version info: This is perl, v5.6.0 built for MSWin32-x86-multi-thread (with 1 registered patch, see perl -V for more detail) Copyright 1987-2000, Larry Wall Binary build 618 provided by ActiveState Tool Corp. http://www.ActiveState.com Built 21:03:54 Sep 13 2000 The download page at ActiveState is currently offering 5.6.1, build 631. Is anyone else managing to use 0.0.665 on Win95 with any version of Perl? (Someone who did not build it himself (or herself).) >My guess is that you're using a different version of Win32::GUI than I >am >(I'm still using 0.0.558 because I couldn't get the PPM for 0.0.665 at >SourceForge to work) and your version is slightly more tolerant of >missing >names. Dude ... you call &settings from an event handler and $Window2->Dialog(); from &settings. That's asking for trouble. Define all your windows and widgets somewhere. Then call Win32::GUI::Dialog(); once and only once from the main thread. There has been a recent posting on how to handle more than one window with still just one Dialog() call. Remember, as long as one event handler (like your Settings_Click) is avtive, no other event can get handled. Which may be the reason why your window freezes - since you call Dialog() inside the event handler, that handler routine never returns control to the first Dialog() call. I'm not sure if that's really what happens, I don't have the time to test it. |

> hi i need lots of help. i'm fairly new to perl and i only compiled > win32::gui yesterday. i have a listview that i'd like to Don't worry, we've all been fairly new. With most of the stuff, most of us still are. > my($stuff) = @_; > sort $a <=> $b, $stuff; This looks like a Perl problem rather than Win32-GUI. You assign the scalar $stuff the first item of the list @_. That's the only item you'll get that way. Your call to sort has nothing to do. Plus, you don't put the result of the sort anywhere. What you want may be more like my @sortedstuff = sort $a <=> $b, @_; but since we're talking about a listview and these things have strings, it would have to be my @sortedstuff = sort $a cmp $b, @_; I hope you don't mind my saying so, but you're gonna need to be more secure in those basics or you'll never know where the problem is. There's tons of tutorials out there. I myself learned most from just reading the core docu - if you installed ActiveState Perl, it's probably C:\Perl\html\lib\Pod\perl.html |

hi. ive' got a combox in a settings window that displays dun entries. i've done it like this sub Settings_Click { &settings } sub settings { $Window2 = new GUI::Window( -name => "Window2", -text => "Settings", -width => 250, -height => 150, ); $dunlist = $Window2->AddCombobox( -name => "Dun", -left => 10, -top => 10, -width => 230, -height => 100, -style => WS_VISIBLE | 2 | WS_NOTIFY, ); @dunentries = Win32::RASE->RasEnumEntries(); $dunlist->InsertItem(@dunentries); $Window2->Show(); $Window2->Dialog(); } problem is when i click on the comboxbox it will only list 1 entry (there are 2) and both $Window and $Window2 will freeze. what am i doing wrong? also is there a way to stop a window from being resized? is there a way to open a window maximized. i tried using $Window->Maximize and it would maximize and then go back to its original size or minimize completely if i took out -height and -width. and (i think this is the last one) is it possible to make the widgets sticky like in tk? thanx |

hi i need lots of help. i'm fairly new to perl and i only compiled win32::gui yesterday. i have a listview that i'd like to sort. i've tried things like my($stuff) = @_; sort $a <=> $b, $stuff; and variations on that theme but nothing seems to work at all. also, is it possible to change the colour of 1 line in listview and is it possible to change the tick in a checkbox to a cross? thanx in advance |

When I downloaded the PPM version from http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/perl-win32-gui/Win32-GUI-0.0.665-PPM-5.6. zip, there were three files in the .zip file: a readme, a .ppd file, and a gzipped tarball. There's no ppd in 665 ... or has somebody made it into one?? Gimmeeeee! Or do you mean adapting the ppd that came with 558 and tweak 665 into it? How? I don't get it. Having a ppm for 665 would really be nice, you could easily switch back and forth, as long as there are major issues with the new version. _______________________________________________ Perl-Win32-GUI-Users mailing list Per...@li... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/perl-win32-gui-users -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This email may contain confidential and privileged material for the sole use of the intended recipient. Sorry about that. I made a typo when I sent out the email. I figured the Show() function might be returning 0, but after closing the error message I still get the busy cursor, so I wasn't sure if there was anything else I might be getting wrong. I also forgot to mention that I'm using Win32::GUI v0.0.665 on Windows 2000. I'll try rolling back to 0.0.558 and see if that changes anything. Side note: I've tried adding a button since and I don't get any error, but it's still stuck at the hourglass like it's waiting for something. BTW, if you want to install 0.0.665, just extract the files from the tarball that comes with the .ppd file. In it is a blib folder. You should be able to manually copy the folders in there to their appropriate places in /perl/site/lib, and that will do it. -----Original Message----- From: Sean Healy To: tjo...@sa...; per...@li... Zero indicates that the window was previously hidden. I'm just returning this value, so it doesn't mean success or failure. 2. the hourglass issue is a bug in version 0.0.665, I'm still looking on how to solve it (help? anybody? ;-) cheers, Aldo __END__ $_=q,just perl,,s, , another ,,s,$, hacker,,print; |

Tim I think the problem may be that $main->Show() returns 0 so the left hnd side of your or ( || ) evaluates to false. If I modify your code to test the theory : my $return = ($main->Show()); ErrMsg( "Could not un-hide window - $return \n"); The message box reports : Could not un-hide window - 0 Hope this helps. Yes, it is or at least appears to be. I have ME at home (hate it!) so I have not done a lot with it so I can't speak to how completely it behaves on ME, but most of the basics seem to work ok. -Pete > -----Original Message----- > From: Michelangelo Corradini [mailto:mic...@ti...] > Sent: Saturday, March 30, 2002 11:20 > To: per...@li... > Subject: [perl-win32-gui-users] Question... > > > The module Win32::Gui is compatible with Windows ME ? > Thanks. > > Michelangelo > > > _______________________________________________ > Perl-Win32-GUI-Users mailing list > Per...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/perl-win32-gui-users > |

You must not return -1 from mySearchDialog_Terminate, because it destroys and releases all the objects associated with it. You want to reuse the DialogWindow, so just Hide() it and return One. That does not exit your Dialog() call, but that's not needed. If you want to make the Dialog modal, you have to give it the focus when the mainWindow gets the focus. Otherwise, all widgets and all windows are being handled by a single call to Win32::GUI::Dialog() - don't use $myWinVar->Dialog(). Maybe you can go with your way of having another Dialog() call for the DialogWindow - if you return 0 from your terminate sub. That would also exit the Dialog() call, but retain the window and its widgets for later use. I don't know if that would solve the modality issue, if you want that. Hello, I have downloaded today the new version of the Win32::Gui and the relative examples but I have found various errors that listed later on. Use ActivePerl v5.6.1 build 631 with Windows 98 and the previous version of the module Win32::Gui I did not have no problem. Of continuation, using Win32::Gui on any example not there are more the cursors of resize the windows. Moreover why using the option of warning "-w" the Perl says to me that -style and -exstyle they are deprecate options? Here the list of the example scripts that they have given problems to me: class.pl Can't load nobody icon. cmeta.pl Not valid Operation: error of division in the module gui.dll dc.pl Can' t locate auto/DELETE.al in @INC at dc.pl line 48, calling the routine EndPaint(). mousemove.pl Not valid Operation: not valid page in the module: <unknown > nem_lv.pl The traditional event for the buttons does not work. pmx.pl it Does not work until that uses the "New Event Model", if remove lines 79..81 then all works. pride.pl Not valid Operation: not valid page in the module: <unknown> progressbar.pl Can' t locate auto/PB.al in @INC at progressbar.pl line 182 vmeta.pl Can' t locate auto/DELETE.al in @INC at vmeta.pl line 26 I hope that someone of you can help me. Excuse for my bad english. :-) Thanks. Michelangelo |

If you DL the non-binary version it includes a bunch of useful sample scripts to demonstrate the controls, as well as some tutorials, among other useful bits. - me22 > Date: Wed, 27 Mar 2002 20:07:27 -0800 (PST) > From: emir cruz <mi...@ya...> > To: per...@li... > Subject: [perl-win32-gui-users] on list views > > hi!
