Some ideas :
 
    - Imaging for window :
      In my Win98se, windows come with a activex call ImgScan.ocx (help in imgocxd.hlp).
      you can probably use it with Win32::OLE (or Win32::GUI::ActiveX).
 
    - See Win32::Scanner::EZTWAIN modules. (http://search.cpan.org/src/LENNERTO/Win32-Scanner-EZTWAIN-0.01/)
      it use Win32::API and a free Dll.
