Hi, Ian. I found that Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA doesn't pass the tests on Perl 5.14.0 because of RT#65947 https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=65947 This ticket also suggests a resolution on which I have written a patch. This module is important because OAuth::Lite depends on it. Can you please review my patch? -- Fuji, Goro (@__gfx__) |

Hello, I am successful in using Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA to generate keys and sign a message (string) in perl. I am also able to verify said message. However, since the signature is a perl binary object, I cannot see how it is possible to send this signature outside of the original script (i.e. append the signature to the message so the recipient can validate it using the public key). Is there a way to convert the binary representation to text and back again? I've found some examples that use pack and unpack. However I am not having any luck. Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA does not currently support DES3-encrypted keys. There is no reason in principle that it couldn't, but adding support will involve figuring out how to deal with the passphrase. Some applications will want to use openssl's support for reading the passphrase directly from the keyboard, but others will want to allow for passing it in as a perl variable. Hi, I would like to be able to store private RSA keys encrypted, but I have tried des, des3 and aes128 encryption and Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA always croaks with: RSA.xs:178: OpenSSL error: unsupported encryption at myprog.pl line 104 when doing Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA->new_private_key($pem[0]) (it does not fail when the key is not encrypted, though). I installed the latest version of Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA and work with openssl 0.9.8e!
Can you tell me where my fault(s) lie(s)?
What I need is this:
1) read the private key from a pem file, create an sha1 digest of some data and sign this data with this key
2) read the public key from a certificate file and verify some data using this public key and a signature
I suspect it is possible to do this using this module: Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA or is it (not)?
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks in advance, Piet.

Hi, today I was made aware of CVE-2009-0129 and the discussion at the Debian BTS http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=511519. IMHO, the proposed patch (submitted to sourceforge as bug 2545158) looks reasonable enough and before adopting this patch for the package security/p5-Crypt-OpenSSL-DSA in pkgsrc I wanted to ask why it has not been integrated in CVS? ciao Klaus |

S nature, bandit though he was. Ernest had never read the story of Jekyll and Hyde, but he felt instinctively that the man beside him had a double nature. On the road he was an outlaw, with corresponding traits, a rough and unscrupulous man, but at home and in the presence of his son, as Ernest judged, he was a warm-hearted and affectionate father. In truth, the young bank messenger looked forward with interest to a meeting with the boy who was so dear to the heart of a man whom the world generally supposed to be a stranger to the softer emotions. At length they reached a rocky hillside. Here the outlaw pulled up his horse and jumped from the buggy. Ernest looked at him in a questioning way. "You can get out," he said. "We have arrived." Ernest alighted and looked about him. He naturally expected to see a dwelling of some kind, but there was none in sight. If it was at a distance, why should they not have driven to it? Om puffing doubtful enterprises, the literary paper that depends upon the approval of publishers, are poor affairs, and, in the long run or short run, come to grief. Some newspapers do succeed by sensationalism, as some preachers do; by a kind of quackery, as some doctors do; by trimming and shifting to any momentary popular prejudice, as some politicians do; by becoming the paid advocate of a personal ambition or a corporate enterprise, as some lawyers do: but the newspaper only becomes a real power when it is able, on the basis of pecuniary independence, to free itself from all such entanglements. Iscussion, Mrs. Catlin left with the parting injunction, "Call upon me for anything--I will be on hand." Late in the afternoon Mr. Talmage returned with his brother who was the editor of a prominent magazine in New York. The Blue Birds had gone, and Ruth welcomed her uncle whose visits were always a source of pleasure to Ned and herself. He sat down on the steps beside her and listened to her story of the wonderful work Ned's printing press had done that summer, and of the work required of it for the coming summer. Uncle Ben smiled as he listened. "Ned will be walking in my footsteps soon, won't he?" said Uncle Ben, as Ruth concluded. Before Ruth could reply her mother came out to welcome the visitor and tell him of Aunt Selina's presence. "Aunt Selina! You don't say so! Why, I haven't seen her since my graduation from college," remarked Uncle Ben, in pleased surprise. "She is in her room dressing for dinner," said Mrs. Talmage. "You will find a great change working in her. Why, just think of her offer of Happy Hills for the poor children next summer." And she proceeded to tell the story of Aunt Selina's desire to help the Blue Bird work. "Now that Uncle Ben is here, maybe he can help us plan some way to earn the money for next summer," suggested Ruth. "I believe you can! What we need is to find some way of reaching the right children, and then to start some work that will bring us in a regular income during the winter, for it will take a heap of money to run a large place like Happy Hills with several hundred starved little children living there," admitted Mrs. Talmage. Getting a failure in test 63, and don't know what to do to test further.
when running "make test" I get:
t/rsa.......ok 1/63# Failed test 63 in t/rsa.t at line 150
t/rsa.......NOK 63# t/rsa.t line 150 is: ok(!$@);
t/rsa.......FAILED test 63
Failed 1/63 tests, 98.41% okay
Failed Test Stat Wstat Total Fail Failed List of Failed
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
t/rsa.t 63 1 1.59% 63
Failed 1/3 test scripts, 66.67% okay. 1/137 subtests failed, 99.27% okay.
that call / line in the test script is running (with previous line):
eval { Crypt::OpenSSL::RSA::Subpackage->generate_key(256); };
ok(!$@);
Any pointers on where to look?
