Converting Date to UTC format

I would like to know if any of you has already wrote a script to convert
a Date to UTC format.
I would like to translate the below formats to their corresponding UTC fo=
rmat.

04/02/2002 11:45:58 AM EDT   to 20020402164658Z
04/02/2002                   to 20020402000000Z
