Net::LDAP is a 100% perl implementation (for the most part). Which makes it
very portable. It ia also the module that is discussed on thi list

The was the first module to provide an XS interface to the C client library.
It is no longer supported by its developer.

Mozilla took ownership of Net::LDAPapi in 1998 and renamed it. It has since been
improved, but there seems to be little development now.
