one level scope

Ok,
I have a question on scope. It's been so long since I had to do a 
one level scope search and I don't have an active LDAP server 
handy to test it out.

I thought a one level search, searches all entries under a base 
entry, including their children but not the base entry.

But now I've heard that it only searches one level, that level under 
the base but not their children.

ie:
given a tree of:
o=airius.com
   ou=people,o=airius.com
 uid=...,ou=people,o=airius.com
  ...
one level with a search base of o=airius.com, would only search 
the ou=people entries?
