I just installed perfparse without much difficulty. When I run perforce -r, it seems to be running fine (by look of output) for few times but it doesnt seem be inserting anything into the DB. Then, few minutes later, it gives SQL error which seems to be mismatch between the column and the values. ie trying to insert int into char. Seems like quite a few ppl are having similar problem. Would it be better to use the older version ? Thanks Daniel |

Hi, I found this error after installing perfparse-0.99.08 with data from plugins 1.4.0alpha1. To make this work I added a new column "nagios_status" to perfdata_service_raw and the application wors. Is this OK ? or do I have any other problem with the plugins? In the future, please respond to all, or just to the list. I don't have all the answers all of the time, so others still might be able to assist if you stay on list. Also, this will keep the threads archived, so that others may benefit from this information in the future. Also, it's a good idea to not use HTML email when sending to mailing lists, as some users don't have the ability to view HTML email, or just ignore HTML messages. If you send a reply in a text message, as opposed to HTML email, it will probably be easier to respond to questions inline.=20 Barry Weeks wrote: > Hi Gary >=20 > Thanks for quick response >=20 > [root@smatest bin]# ./perfparse -v > Version 0.99.08 OK, 0.99.08 is the latest stable version, so that's all good. Update... perfparse-0.99.08 If your CGI is broken after running perfparse for the first time on a new= host, yes, this is a bug ! Either download perfparse-0.99.08ym2 from http://ymettier.chez.tiscali.fr/perfparse-devel/index.php (with other cha= nges and other really minor bugfix: see ChangeLog) Or: Edit perfparse/perfparse.c line 1105 and, as a quick and temporary fix, r= ead "0.13" instead of VERSION. Then recompile. Yves =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D This was in the previous post and is still valid. If your CGI is already broken, you can use your mysql client: select * from perfdata_state; domain | file_name | line_in_file | last_line_hash | pid | perfparse_version 00000001 | /path/serviceperf.log | 0 | = | 1234 | 0 00000002 | /path/serviceperf.log | 0 | = | 4321 | 0.13 The line with perfparse_version =3D 0 has to be updated: UPDATE perfdata_state SET perfparse_version =3D 0.13 where domain =3D '00= 000001'; That's it. I have not checked it perfparse-db-tool --update works in this= case. Sorry for the bug! perfparse-0.99.08 If your CGI is broken after running perfparse for the first time on a new= host, yes, this is a bug ! Either download perfparse-0.99.08ym1 from http://ymettier.chez.tiscali.fr/perfparse-devel/index.php (with other cha= nges and other really minor bugfix: see ChangeLog) Or: Edit perfparse/perfparse.c line 1105 and read DB_VERSION instead of VERSI= ON. Then recompile. If your CGI is already broken, you can use your mysql client: select * from perfdata_state; domain | file_name | line_in_file | last_line_hash | pid |= perfparse_version 00000001 | /path/serviceperf.log | 0 | | 1234 |= 0 00000002 | /path/serviceperf.log | 0 | | 4321 |= 0.13 The line with perfparse_version =3D 0 has to be updated: UPDATE perfdata_state SET perfparse_version =3D 0.13 where domain =3D '00= 000001'; That's it. I have not checked it perfparse-db-tool --update works in this= case. Sorry for the bug! What version of perfparse are you running ? If you are running the latest perfparse version (0.99.08 for now), could = you check nagios.cfg and the following line that should be: xpdfile_service_perfdata_template=3D$TIME$\t$HOSTNAME$\t$SERVICEDESC$\t$O= UTPUT$\t$SERVICESTATE$\t$PERFDATA$ If this is already the case, we have to find out why, in the SQL query, w= e have: host_name : '1091426180' service_description : 'dh08' ctime : RTA =3D 0.97 ms txt_data : 'DNS' nagios_status : 0 I can find no text with '1091426180' in the lines you give me, and no lin= e with "RTA =3D 0.97 ms". I think there is a problem in your service-perfdata.out file, and it this= is really the case, I'd like to know if there is a way to make perfparse more robust an= d detect such error. This is necessary because without this, with the temp file renamed (no in= ode change), nagios would continue to write to the temp file instead of recreating a n= ew file. I'll upgrade and see what gives... BTW, this may also be relevant: I use a different approach for writing the serviceperf.log file, because I used the default (command based) method before I started using perfparse, and stuck with that. I choose to go that route because I allready had written some custom tools that I used to do some reporting, based on the performance data output files, and would lioke to keep that as well, so I ended up using a command that will create both files for me. This also means the nagios process is not actually locking the file, so I'm now considering the following: Rename the file to a temp file. A new file will be started automatically, no kill signals required. Read in the temp file, and delete it. Anyway , seems like I might be on my own for this way of working, but thanks anyway for the help. Speaking about 0.99.08 (otherwise, please upgrade) > Hi, > > If I run perfparse -r --delete , the logfile does not get > truncated at all. --delete is not supported any more. Use --delete-service-log instead > My nagios.lock file is owned by root , does perfparse (which runs under > the account of user nagios) need write access to the lock file ? Read access only to get the PID of nagios, then kill -1. And rw access to the directory that contain serviceperf.log as the perfparse user, test this: mv serviceperf.log serviceperf.log.test kill -1 `cat nagios.lock` A new serviceperf.log should be created. If not, some permissions are mis= sing ! > > I also have a more generic question: > I get "Lines dropped" when I run perfparse every 5 minutes or so, > up to 1 ~ 2 % of lines are being dropped.... > Is there a verbose setting on perfparse, so that I can see what > is going on ? Hi, If I run perfparse -r --delete , the logfile does not get truncated at all. My nagios.lock file is owned by root , does perfparse (which runs under the account of user nagios) need write access to the lock file ? I also have a more generic question: I get "Lines dropped" when I run perfparse every 5 minutes or so, up to 1 ~ 2 % of lines are being dropped.... Is there a verbose setting on perfparse, so that I can see what is going on ? BTW, I use Nagios 1.2 , with perfparse 0.99.01 (yeah I know, it's a bit old allready) on around 40 hosts and 200 services. TIA, Jaap |

Thanks Yves for the intermediate version. The official 0.99.08 is now released: http://perfparse.sourceforge.net/ This has a couple of bug-fixes, some options to control the host log file (hostperf.log) and some access control for the CGI. This is a stable release and the last for at least two weeks. Please enjoy this release and let us know any problems. There may be various intermediate version from Yves. If you are interested in some beta testing, please do. The new CHI access control, as requested from this group: You may control the administrative functions accessed through the CGI. These may be set to read-only, read-write or hidden. This can be used, say, for a public read-only installation of the CGI scripts. Whilst your desk-top remains a read-write installation. See the perfparse.cgf.example provided. Thanks to Garry and Yves for all the work that went into this release. Regards, Ben. |

http://www.nagios.org/cvs.php perfparse seems to be working fine, but this version of nagios has a problem with being HUP'd... it crashes even doing /etc/init.d/nagios reload.
