If you are using --delete* option, yes, perfparse sends some SIGHUP signa=
l to nagios to
ask for restart and use a new serviceperf.log file.
Otherwise, nothing to see with perfparse.

perfparse does not ask nagios to stop, but only to start writing to a new
serviceperf.log file, which also mean restarting, but not stopping.
In your log, strange that nagios starts and restarts at the same time. SI=
GHUP caught by
change at that time ?

[Perfparse-users] nagios restarting

Hi all.

I've observed my nagios restart every perfparse.sh run. I use
perfparse-0.99.07

[26-08-2004 12:35:00] Nagios 1.2 starting... (PID=12443)
[26-08-2004 12:35:00] Caught SIGHUP, restarting...

Is this ok? If so, why is needed nagios restarting?

I'm trying to figure out why my nagios stops working after few hours and I'd
like to know if this "nagios restarting" has some relation to "nagios
stopping".

When nagios stops its checks, it always has a zombie process.

The only other thing I did was changed to the newer sample version 
perfparse.cfg.

Here are some thoughts...
Did you see any "upgrade" output from ./perfparse-db-tool --update when 
you ran it indicating something actually happened?
Is the binary from  perfparse-db-tool the new one that was built with 
0.99.09.
I initially didn't "configure" correctly which "make install"ed 
perfparse-db-tool  to the wrong directory (/usr/local/bin) which left 
the older version of perfparse-db-tool  in place under /usr/local/nagios/bin

I believe that this bug was fixed in Version 0.99.08, but it might have
been 0.99.09. Either way, you should definitely be using the latest
stable version -> 0.99.09.

version upgrade did not fix it for them. However, they did not mention
if they ran 'perfparse-db-tool --update' after upgrading PerfParse.

Everyone needs to realize something very important:
With new versions, there are changes to the PerfParse code and there are
sometimes changes made to the MySQL DB as well. You need to use the
perfparse-db-tool to update your DB with each upgrade. This tool will be
installed in your '<path_to>/nagios/bin/' directory, run it with the
'--update' argument to ensure that DB changes are made properly.

I recently started using PerfParse and encounted the same thing.
 
OS: Debian Linux 2.6.6-1-686 #1 Wed May 12 14:57:57 EST 2004 i686 GNU/Lin
MySQL: Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.18, for pc-linux-gnu (i686)
 
Installed PerfParse 0.99.07. 
Ran perfparse-db-tool --update
No perfdata being collected yet.
Noticed the deletion policy problem.
 
Downloaded and installed alpha1 plugins.
Configured ping to collect perfdata with fping
Downloaded and installed a few of the latest cvs plugins.
Installed PerfParse 0.99.09. 
Ran perfparse-db-tool --update
Deletion policy problem no longer exists.
 
I don't know what fixed it in that sequence. Plus, I'm sure there was a
reboot or two in there somewhere.
 
I do know that PerfParse acts differently if there is no data. It could be
that it malfunctioned until data was collected and appeared in the tables.

The file you need to change is the actual check_icmp file in 
/usr/local/nagios/libexec
 
The command to run would be
 
chmod u+s /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_icmp
 
Please try and find out some more info about setting root priviledges on 
files just so you understand the security implications.

to inherit the privilledges of the root user while running then release 
them again after execution.

There is a simple reason why you have no data in the binary reports. 
None of the plugins you are using are producing valid performance data. 
  When they do, you will get this data.

There is more information on this from Garry's excellent HOWTO and the 
PerfParse web site he has produced for us.

I am glad you are having success using PerfParse.

Sorry to say that there is no way of stopping this displaying without 
editing the code.  I have given you the fix at the end of this email.

However we will be adding an optional username/password authentication 
to the application at some time.  I will make a note of your request so 
that when we do this, we can add this feature for you.  If a user was 
allowed to access only a given list of Groups, would this satisfy your 
requirements?

Find the section of code starting:  (Should be line 382)

Comment out or delete the section down to and including line 409.  This 
should be all you need to do.

Hi,

I've just installed perfparse and I'm very happy with the results. I wanted
to provide views to different customers. I've groups the customer devices
together  but if I provide them with the following link
http://IPAddress/nagios/perfgraph.cgi?all_raw=1&group_name=Customer+1&inc=pe
rfdata%5Fhost%2Ehost%5Fname they get the drill down option to specify other
customers.

Is there a way to stop displaying the drop down on the string of the URL?

If not, is it possible to remove this drop down from the code and recompile
the CGI file?

After upgrading, did you run the db update? You should run this command
everytime you upgrade, just to make sure that any database changes are
incorporated into your installation:
/<path_to_nagios>/bin/perfparse-db-tool --update  

Try that, and then email the list with results. Please also include
Linux Distro/Version and MySQL version.

OK, I probably should not have made that change, as I was really
patching to add performance data. I guess I should know better and stick
to changing one thing at a time. However, I did not find this
information in the docuementation, and the original values for the
MEMUSE check were quite confusing. The change that I made properly
reported MEMUSE on my sytems, and as mentioned in the code comments, I
was not sure that it was the correct thing to do.
Is the information that you've provided above in the NSClient docs
somewhere? If so, please let me know and I'll read them again.

If MEMUSE is actually checking Commit Charge, then I think that the
source of the confusion lies in the name of the check. Your point is
still valid, and my change should be reversed to it's original value.
However, I think that perhaps the name of the check needs to be updated
as well, and details on how to actually check physical RAM should be
included, if not already in the documentation.

I don't check any counters, so wouldn't have been able to test the
addition of perfdata for these. Thanks for following up on that, if it
works well I'm sure that it will add value to the plugin.

[Perfparse-users] CVS Plugins are being updated

Ton Voon is spending a lot of time this afternoon applying patches to
plugins and updating CVS.
Therefore, tomorrow might be a good time to check out the latest Plugins
CVS tarball.
I know that several of the patches that I've submitted have been used,
so that's at least three more plugins that now support Performance Data
output (check_disk, check_nt, and check_ifstatus).
