The document you mention I believe is: http://wiki.perfparse.org/tiki-index.php?page=BuildingMethod4Example Supplied kindly by Alex Peeters. If you have found this useful, I'll link this from our FAQ. Thanks for the advise on Nagios 2.x. PerfParse is not 'officially' able to read this, but only because I don't use Nagios 2.x and I have yet to get back comments about how this works. I am after any such comments in order to update our documentation, so thanks for your observations. Would you have a tested example of a configuration? Regards, Ben. Tong Young wrote: > Thanks. Ignacio, How are you building you perfdata-service.log file? If you are using the Nagios 'file' method for instance, there is an entry in nagios.cfg which must be correct: xpdfile_service_perfdata_template=$TIMET$\t$HOSTNAME$\t$SERVICEDESC$\t$OUTPUT$\t$SERVICESTATE$\t$PERFDATA$ There are other reasons why you have no performance data, so please let us know. Hey all, I've spent the afternoon trying to get perfparse to work using "Pipe to perfparsed" method, with no success! Granted that what consumed most of my time beating mysql3 off my machine and mysql4 on. I compiled perfparsed(latest stable) and nagios(nagios-2.0b1) with the following options: ./configure '--prefix=3D/usr/local/nagios' '--with-imagedir=3D/usr/local/nagios/share/images/' '--with-http_image_path=3D/images' '--with-cgidir=3D/cgi-bin' ./configure --prefix=3D/usr/local/nagios --with-cgiurl=3D/cgi-bin --with-htmurl=3D --with-nagios-user=3Dnagios --with-nagios-grp=3Dnagios --with-default-perfdata --enable-embedded-perl --with-perlcache I set the process performance option on in nagios.cfg: process_performance_data=3D1 I commented out process-host-perfdata and process-service-perfdata from my misccommands.cfg file. I set my Service_log variable to=20 Service_Log =3D "|/usr/local/nagios/bin/perfparse.sh/var/serviceperf.log" And I have added the following to my nagios_perfparse.cfg file: define command{ command_name process-service-perfdata command_line /usr/local/nagios/bin/perfparse_nagios_command.pl /usr/local/nagios/var/perfdata-service.log "$TIMET$" "$HOSTNAME$" "$SERVICEDESC$" "$OUTPUT$" "$SERVICESTATE$" "$PERFDATA$" } define command{ command_name process-host-perfdata command_line /usr/local/nagios/bin/perfparse_nagios_command.pl /usr/local/nagios/var/var/perfdata-host.log "$TIMET$" "$HOSTNAME$" "$OUTPUT$" "$PERFDATA$" } I setup a FIFO: [root@spanner var]# ls -ld serviceperf.log prw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Feb 9 16:18 serviceperf.log I have a feeling the problem is with my Service_Log setting as if I run truss on my ./perfparse.sh binary I get stat64("|/usr/local/nagios/bin/perfparse.sh/var/serviceperf.log", 0xbfffc8d0) =3D -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) however even if I change it to: |/usr/local/nagios/var/serviceperf.log, I still get the same error: stat64("|/usr/local/nagios/var/serviceperf.log", 0xbfffabd0) =3D -1 = ENOENT (No such file or directory) I can get the web interface, but I can't get a list of hosts and it doesn't' look like any data is being inserted into the database Any assistance is appreciated=20 Mark Mark Campbell |

Hi, all. Yesterday, I downloaded and installed nagios 2.0b1, perfparse-0.105.5, and plugins 1.40 release. Everything seems to be working great on the nagios side. And, all the plugins I'm interested in appear to be outputting performance data. I'm using the guide located at http://wiki.perfparse.org/tiki-index.php?page=BuildingMethod4Example as a template. When I run the plugin 'check_load -w 15,10,5 -c 30,25,20' from the command-line I get: OK - load average: 0.01, 0.06, 0.07|load1=0.010000;15.000000;30.000000;0.000000 load5=0.060000;10.000000;25.000000;0.000000 load15=0.070000;5.000000;20.000000;0.000000 But what appears in nagios/var/perfdata-service.log is: 1107970513 fs1 check-load $ OK $ No performance data. As such, when I run: perfparse-log2mysql -r -s --serviceperf-log nagios/var/perfdata-service.log I get: +-----------------------------+ +-----------------------------+ | Generic statistics | | Nb Log Lines : 1 | | Nb lines parsed : 0 | | Nb lines dropped : 0 | | Start date : 2005-02-09 | | Elapsed time : 00:00:00 | | Start time : 12:49:44 | | Rate : (line/sec) 0.00 | +-----------------------------+ +-----------------------------+ +-----------------------------+ +-----------------------------+ | MySQL storage statistics | | | | New Hosts : 0 | | Metric/line : 0.00 | | New Metrics : 0 | | Metrics Recorded : 0 | | New Services : 0 | | Summary Rec Added : 0 | | New Summary Group : 0 | | SQL Queries : 19 | +-----------------------------+ +-----------------------------+ Does anyone have any guidance or ideas? The only obvious discrepancy in the guide listed above are the lines: replace No_Raw_Data = "yes" No_Bin_Data = "yes" with No_Raw_Data = "yes" No_Bin_Data = "yes" Clearly, what's meant is for the entries to change from one state to another. Not sure what they should be! I've tried a few combos, and it didn't seem to make a difference. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, much, in advance. Dear users of PerfParse, There is an index missing off one of the tables. This effects the Raw History. Adding this index should speed reports from minutes to seconds. However I will not be adding this in a normal database version change. This is because adding the index may take many hours if you have data. Therefore all new databases will have this index. If you want to add it, which I advise, please enter: mysql> ALTER TABLE perfdata_service_raw ADD INDEX search_idx (host_name, service_description, ctime); Please let me know if you require more information. Regards, Ben Clewett. |

Either edit config_file.c with a hex editor and check that all the charac= ters are allowed, or delete that line and type it again by hand. No copy/paste. Nick, I am sorry but I am out of options. I can't see anything wrong with the code, or replicate your error. You have a very recent gcc. I don't think this is likely to contain errors. It does seem to contain some checking feature to which previous versions did not contain. We will have to work out what it is about our code that your compiler does not like. In the mean while, do you have an older version of gcc which you can use to compile PerfParse? Regards, Ben. What is the signifigance of the "xpdfile"? I don't use Nagios 2. There may be somebody on this list who does and ca= n give better advise. If there isn't then you are looking at a new port for PerfParse and this method. It seems like you have found some significant differences betwee= n the two versions. I am glad to see you are nearly there. May I please ask you document the differences between Nagios 1.2 and Nagios 2, so that we can update our documentaion. I don't know what the xpd stands for. Hi Philipp, Thanks for reminding me. I remember telling you we would have this completed after Christmas. With the loss of Yves and my time becoming limited, this line of development has slowed. My wife is also about to give birth to our second child, which drastically effects my ability to code all evening :) Unfortunately this has also been complicated by the addition of PostgreSQL, twice the programming now needed. But I would much rather we had PostgreSQL than not! I have completed some of the work, but more still needed. We have agreed to go to version 1.0.0 when this is complete, all the more reason to get on with it... *This is an implore to all users!* If anybody would like to help me complete the database conversion shown here: http://wiki.perfparse.org/tiki-index.php?page=DatabaseConversionSpecification This would be of great help to a lot of our users. You will be credited as an author, and be a member of a great team of great people. Regards Ben. -- PerfParse Project (http://www.perfparse.org) |
