Pencil is build on Qt and previous relied on the QSound class for playback. While adequate for loading, playing and stopping a sound, it lacked facilities for determining the length of a sound or seeking through the sound. To rectify these shortcomings, the Phonon multimedia framework - added to Qt as of version 4.0 - was chosen as a replacement for audio playback.

This patch also addresses issues with timeline navigation and audio playback, adding support for skipping ahead in an animation and keeping the audio in sync, pausing and resuming an animation with matching audio playback, and correctly ceasing the playback of sounds that lie outside of the current segment of the timeline.
