lost Dial-Up Icon on task bar after installing PB. Even if I
reset the DUN setup options, W98 will not accept the
change. Reinstalled DUN 3 times, still no response,
neither "Redial" option. Uninstalled PB, and cleaned up the
registers, no dice. Last option, reinstall W98?. Never had
this problem with any other program. Solution?

    De-Install the whole Network-Drivers, and re-install them.
You'll have to throw out the DUN-Adapter at least, and the
    bindings for TCP/IP.

Clean out the whole thing, and re-install it.

    maybe it'll work.

tweaking the registry is another solution, but where the
f*** does win98 hide the reg-keys for DUN, especially for
    the taskbar-icon ? any1 ?

    Good Luck
    bye

thanks, whoever, but i needed my Net setup back to normal. I
reinstalled Windex98 and not only restored everything to normal,
but it speeded up also to normal. Windex was getting sluggish like
hell for some unknown reason, and after PB, it got worse. Now I
am running, but I didn't reinstall PB, for a second reason: After
    PB, I found with my Ad-aware 24 (!) spy-ware files from some
new idiots called BrilliantDigital, together with the other Internet
intestinal dweller Cydoor. I haven't installed any "free" programs
lately, so I assume the spy-ware came with PB. How safely and
anonymously can we surf, when those two colon irritants are
spying on us and relaying to hell-knows-who all our computing
information? Is anybody aware of this?

    open install.log in peekabooty folder.
write down the names of all the .dll that are overwritten in the
    win/system directory.
now use a program like winRAR to open the cab files that are
    on your win98 disc.
find all the original files and copy them into your win/system
    directory. (do this in dos-mode)
now some of the files that were installed by peekabooty were
not on the orig win98 disc. delete this files.
now restart and your dun should be working again.
