This wouldn't be hard to do if you were familiar with PEBL, getting to that point where you could implement it easily would probably be a lot of effort. There are a number of tutorials available on the website, but the code for the paired associates task itself is pretty minimal---it wouldn't take much effort to implement that in another way, especially if this isn't for a graduate research project. Good evening, I hope this email finds you well. I am a Masters student at the University of Bath and I have been using pebl v2.1 to collect data for my dissertation. Specifically, I have been using the stroop.vic and pcpt test batteries. Unfortunately, an error has occurred when saving participant data. When saving participant files to my laptop, pebl provides an excel spreadsheet and a txt file for the outputs. I have lost the txt files for each participant but have got participant spreadsheets. Is there a way that the txt files can be retrieved or generated from the excel spreadsheets for each participant? I have attached the pooled data files for the stroop.vic and the pcpt in case this is something you can help me with, although pebl does not save column headings for these folders. I use ubuntu as my primary set-up, so yes you can definitely do so. But I don't package because it is straightforward to compile. If you download the source archive from the last release, you should be able to complie once the required libsdl libraries are installed, and maybe a few others if you want optional other features. There are a few things you can turn on or off in the Makefile. You need the 2.0 branches of libsdl2 libraries, which you should be able to get with the main ones include libsdl2-dev, libsdl2-gfx-dev, lbsdl2-image-dev libsdl2-ttf-dev and their library counterparts, which you should be able to get with: apt-get install libsdl12*-dev libsdl2* Also used are libsdl2-mixer, libsdl2-net, but these can be turned off. There are a few other developer-based libraries you need--probably g++ and maybe dos2unix. Once unzipped, you should be able to type make make install then pebl can be run via command lineusing > pebl2 or a specific script > pebl2 scirpt.pbl Let me know if you hit a stumbling block and I'll walk you through it. Ubuntu is Debian-based, so it can use .deb packages? Adi, The following parameters seem to work for me to create the version you are asking about: allowAutoPump,0 startballoonsize,10 moneyperpump,0.05 life1,8 life2,16 life3,128 use1,1 use2,0 use3,0 trialsperset,15 phase1,1 phase2,0 minpumps,0 You can just make sure you set them using the parameters interface, or copy this into a parameters file after you create it. I am hoping to use the BART through the PEBL for my dissertation research, but am running into some questions. I would like to use a shortened version (just 15 balloons total). When trying to edit the parameters, I can change the number of trials per set, but I'm not clear on how many sets there are and how to change this so that I get to 15 trials total. Hi, I've been using PEBL on an old Surface Pro 4 tablet, on which it works very well (including using the touchscreen). In our lab we need to buy a new tablet to run experiments with PEBL. However, it's starting to get difficult to find Surface Pro tablets with Windows 10. Does PEBL run on Windows 11? Has anyone tested it on Surface Pro tablets with Windows 11? Hi Shane, I am using the PEBL 2.1. Yes, I am entering the code each time into the entry box. I also know to hit enter to ensure the red edit mode goes away. Nonetheless, the program still overwrites the participant id to be 079, if there isn’t one already saved to the data folder. If there is one in the folder, it will still try to overwrite to 079 and I will get the "add new session”/“rename file” page. If I manually hit rename for each individual test when this page pops up, then the data will correctly save. Any ideas? Nicole, Please give me a bit more detail about how you are launching/running. What launcher are you using? Are you entering the participant code into the participant code entry box each time, or are you expecting it to auto-update the number? One thing that used to happen is that if you enter a new number in the text box, it won't update the value until you hit enter (and the red edit mode box around the text entry goes away). In this case, if you run before you have hit enter, it will run but with the original unedited participant code. This bug existed a few years ago and I fixed it, but maybe after the last release so it might still be effecting the version you are using. We have developed stimuli so participants can detect direction of motion for various types of objects and speeds in a point-light walker display, with distractors continually present. Each condition is captured in movie files (e.g., .mp4, .avi, and so on). Can PEBL display this type of stimuli (movie files) and capture participant responses to them? We included the Weather Prediction Task in our study, and based it on the PEBL Weather Prediction Task, but programmed a slightly different version in PsychoPy suitable for retesting. Hi PEBL team! I am an incoming postdoc at UCSF and would like to use PEBL in some of my upcoming studies. We are planning to investigate the effects of psilocybin on cognitive function. Testing will occur pre- and post-drug to assess drug effects. Since we are using a within-subjects design, and because testing will take place only weeks apart, we are concerned about practice/learning effects. As such, I have two questions for you: 1) Are there any specific experiments on PEBL that you believe have strong test-retest reliability? Conversely, are there any that have poor test-retest reliability and should be avoided for our purposes? 2) Do any of the experiments on PEBL have multiple versions? i.e., two different versions that we could administer pre-drug versus post-drug so that participants are not seeing the same exact test both times. We are specifically interested in cognitive flexibility, so the following tests are of interest: Berg's Card Sorting Test Switcher Task Probabilistic Reversal Learning Thank you! pedro, Most of the variables calculated are documented in various neuropsychological testing books. There are references in the report file to look these up, and many come from the PAR manual, which we base the PEBL version on roughly. To answer further questions: * 'Perseverations' is just a count of whether they used the same response as the previous trial. These are not necessarily errors. Most people are not interested in total perseverative errors,, which is what totperserr is. * The PAR-derived measures use a sandwich rule to determine whether something is an error or a persevaration. it is quite complex and cannot be calculated until after the test is completed. You can examine the PAR manual for that, or review the code. We have tested the PAR score on a sample of about 200 participants and found that it is correct for all those cases; and furthermore the error rate for hand-scoring according to the PAR guidelines were substantial. The PEBL perseveration score is much less conservative and will call things as persevarative errors that the PAR will not. I don't know if there are any head-to-head comparisons of whether one is more valid, but we provide both for compatibility. Learning-to-learn is documented in neuropsych handbooks that describe WCST measures. It is the mean differential increase in accuracy after the first set. If you got 5% better on each set, learning-to-learn would be .05.
