On Windows, when you double click to open an archive it is slow, in the order of 2-3 seconds slow, which is dramatically noticeable.
Compared to the nearly instant opening of 7zip it is an abyss, sure 7zip is really minimal on UI features, but in this matter peazip falls behind even against bloated software like winzip and winrar.

Same here, especially if you want to open a big file with many directories and files in it.
Then it takes 10-20 or more seconds, whereas 7-Zip opens them instantly.

7-zip is written in C++. PeaZip is written in freePascal. Pascal is very slow than C++.
Better is Python, Rust, Go for cross-platform programming.
Wait for opening 3+ minutes, if archive contains 20,000+ files :).
File-roller opens this archive in ~0.5 seconds.

Thought the recent release of 7.0.0 would fix this, but it is still crazy slow when doing anything with this application.

Hello, when PeaZip open an archive for browsing it also try to list its entire content so the user can be pre-emptively warned of issues with the archive, and have a succinct report of the content of the archive.

With the WIN64 build of PeaZip 7 an archive of more than 20K files (my collection of various -marvellous - Everaldo's icons sets) is opened in about 6 seconds on and "old" machine (notebook with Core 2 Duo with 5400rpm disk), which becomes less than 3 seconds on a "modern" one (notebook with 8 gen i7 and SSD) - this scales reasonably on the modern machine and becomes less than 7 seconds for a 60K files archive.

Breaking down the machine time, most is spent for the in depth pre-browsing of the archive.

I understand this approach is intrinsically slow and the GUI should not keep the user waiting, I'll try both to improve the specific performances and to offer an alternative option.

Same problem here on linux using the latest v7.0 portable.
It takes some seconds the open even very small archives, while Ark opens them instantly.

Hello, in release 7.0.1 the time to pre-browse archives was optimized, and it was added an option to totally skip pre-browsing (Options > Settings > Browser: Fastest ).

On previous post I tested PeaZip 7.0.0 opening 60 K files archive in less than 7 seconds (Win64, i7-8565U, SSD disk), new 7.0.1 release opens the same file in less than 4 seconds, which becomes less than one second setting the option to skip pre-browsing - in this case most of the time is spent in inter-process communication with backend executable performing the listing task.

Startup time on Ubuntu 22 is 3-4 seconds, which is very slow. Installed via Flatpak, .dep package did not work.

I recently tried PeaZip, and unfortunately, it looks like that this long-standing issue still remains. Despite completely disabling pre-parsing, I noticed that it still took noticeably longer to open an archive compared to 7-zip.
