From the latest discussion of this on the perldl
mailing list:

"and, second, you know how PDL responds with
'TOO LONG TO PRINT' for large piddles. Is that
limit hard coded in the source code, and can
that limit be over-ridden at runtime?"

See http://mailman.jach.hawaii.edu/pipermail/perldl/2010-November/004623.html
for the original message.

This enhancement would be to add a
PDL configuration parameter to control
the maximum size piddle that will be
printed by default. That will allow for
users to change the limit per their
requirements.

    Fixed in PDL git, the new parameter,
    $PDL::toolongtoprint, will appear in
    PDL-2.4.7_006 and higher.
