XircomCBEM56G-100 modem in ttyS14?!?!?!

I installed debian, kernel 2.6.8 and my XircomCBEM56G-100 was recognized immediately
ethernet works great, but I cannot access the modem. It seems that is assigned to ttyS14 (?!?!?!)
but /dev/ttyS14 does not even exist

    Any suggestion?
how can I create /dev/ttyS14 manually or automagically?

Maybe go to /dev and type "MAKEDEV ttyS14"?
