I've just installed a Thinkpad A21p with SuSE 7.1 (kernel 2.2.18) - the thing works fine, except that insertion of my APA-1480B (which works under Win98...) causes the system to freeze. If I boot with the card inserted it freezes as follows:
cardmgr: watching 2 sockets
cardmgr: initializing socket 0
cardmgr: socket 0: Adaptec APA-1480 SCSI Host Adapter
cardmgr: executing: 'modprobe cb_enabler'
cardmgr: executing: 'modprobe apa1480_cb'
and that was it. Only a hardware reset cures the problem. I've searched the web for a solution without success - has anyone any suggestions?
Sorry - I forgot to mention: I borrowed a 1480A and it worked first time without any problems.
Before I try getting the newer aic7xxx driver from http://people.freebsd.org/~gibbs/linux I thought I'd try asking if anyone had a quicker fix that I could try.
I think that should do it.
