I have suse 9.2 running ( as dual boot with xp) on a sony vaio laptop 2.8 ghz 1Gig ram. this is purely for personal use. I am having trouble connecting to wireless access point.
I have a Xterasys Wireless lan card (cheap one i got from ebay & netgear wireless router) and it works fine with XP. I am trying to configure the same under suse. Internet is fine when I have a cable running into the eth0 port but when i try using wireless card, it wont work.
There isnt any driver for the card available so i used ndiswrapper to install the driver from the windows environment. It, aparently worked.
> modprobe ndiswarpper -- It worked
> depmod -a --It worked too
> iwconfig wlan0 essid "idhere" --it worked
> iwconfig wlan0 key restricted <the hex key>
all these worked and i have my wireless lan card lights up and running.
infact, i can access 192.168.0.1 which is my wireless router address now but when i try to connect to web, it never goes.
some say it may be the firewall so i have enabled all the options (like http, https, ftp everything ) on the firewall but it still wont work.
have you got any clue at all how i can make things work. I tried all i could.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS: WIRELESS CARD CONNECT TO THE ACCESS POINT (192.168 .....) BUT IT WONT CONNECT TO WEB.
Please note: I am totally new to linux. I dont know much abt the architecture etc., i m trying to learn as much as i can one step at a time.
any help will be very helpful..
