Hi anyone, I'm a new user, at my first reboot after installing pcmanfm. I've been using spacefm, since its last release segfaults one every usb key unmount. I was looking for a manual to learn if there's a way so preserve previous session tabs, in case someone knows. I understand this is a developers list, but I found no users list, so I try here. (Should I become a developer?) Best Ale -- |

Hello I have added support to libfm for using libnotify, to emit notifications when unmounting or ejecting a storage device. Specifically two notifications are emitted. One to inform the user to avoid disconnecting a storage device in the process of unmounting or ejecting. And a second to inform the user that it's safe to disconnect that storage device. Samples of both notifications: **500 Gb Volume* *Removing, do not disconnect*. 500 Gb Volume* Removed, safe to disconnect. The notifications do not include any icons. Having no previous experience in contributing, I'm attaching the patch here. Also having no prior experience with libfm's source tree and the source's conventions, I may have created a horrible mess instead of a useful contribution. Finally I am clueless about udisks, so this patch is probably incomplete. If there's any interest in this, let me know how to proceed. Thanks and keep up the good work. Sakis Bouzanis |

I have a lot of bookmarks. Is it possible to somehow distinguish some bookmarks from others by using, for example, a separator? Or put one bookmark into another. The only way I can see is to create separate folders with symlinks and add those parent folders to the bookmarks. But can this also be achieved by pcmanfm tools? |

Hey everyone, I wanted to fill an issue for this, but due to stupid sanctions I can't create an account on sf.net. So I thought someone might do that if I post it here. Anyway, segfault happens when you navigate to a directory which contains a valid svg file and PCManFM wanting to preview that. Minimal file that causes the issue: <svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" width="640" height="480" viewBox="0 0 169.333 127"><text y="218.683" x="190.095" style="line-height:1.25;-inkscape-font-specification:'Fira Sans, Light';font-variant-ligatures:normal;font-variant-caps:normal;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-feature-settings:normal;text-align:start" font-weight="300" font-size="5.644" font-family="Fira Sans" letter-spacing="0" word-spacing="0" fill="#3c3c3c" stroke-width=".265" transform="translate(0 -170)"><tspan x="190.095" y="218.683">X</tspan></text></svg> (gdb) where #0 0x00007ffff5a15599 in ?? Hello, I'm working on a pcmanfm\libfm customization project and would like to add in place file rename option (a GtkEntry will appear instead of the GtkCellRendererText, this is instead of the current method of popping up a new window prompting you to enter a name). In the fm-standard-view.c I changed both list and icon view to be editable, trying to click on the Icon View's cellrenderertext does call the exo_icon_view_start_editing() but the GtkEntry does not show. When I do the same for treeview (that does not override the "start_editing" function), it works and I can see the GtkEntry(although not 100%). What I would like to know is as follows: 1)Why does exo_icon_view_start_editing() not show the GtkEntry? I can see it reached the code that should show the widget but it doesn't (I did not change this code myself). 2)How Do I decouple the editing of the GtkCellRendererText from left click? I would like to initiate it from other sections of my code. I tried to run the start_editing functions in another application and it also doesn't work. any working example would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance! |

Hello everyone!
Those two components are usually released together. They are tightly
bound, you know, and even if PCManFM 1.2.3 supports build using 1.0.1
series of LibFM yet, that is not the best (because most of functionality
lies in LibFM and using old version you'd lose a lot), it’s always better
to use last one. So far nothing new happened, no 1.3 version is in active
development yet, so only bugs fixed, making this piece of software more
reliable for your fun. We sincerely hope most of bugs were fixed and you
are always welcome to send us bugs and patches. Enjoy! :)
With best regards,
Andriy.

I'm sorry, I'm just tired today and read the code wrongly. I thought
about not initialized data in data->initial_sel_iter though it will be
NULL after all and all should work correctly. It's not you who should to
apologize, but me. Thank you very much for your contribution, I just want
to test it with older versions of GLib, then I push your commit into GIT.
With best regards,
Andriy.

Apologies if I'm missing something, and you certainly have much greater knowledge of the code in question, but if mime_type is not NULL then the caller provided apps and sel pointers are irrelevant and we proceed to set the pointers ourselves. The patch doesn't change this and I don't see how it could introduce a crash. Secondly, g_app_info_get_default_for_type() can either return a GAppInfo object or NULL; both cases are handled correctly as far as I can see. If no default application is set, it will still return an application that can handle the specified mime type (unless there are none, of course). Again, I'm sorry for my possibly incorrect follow up post and thank you for looking into this. :) |

The $XDG_DATA_DIRS has nothing to do with it and should be never set
to that directory because actually files for actions are searched not in
there but in $XDG_DATA_DIRS/file-manager/actions instead. And do you know
that files in that directory are very different from files located in the
$XDG_DATA_DIRS/applications? Actions files have special type and, also,
all different fields.

There is nothing to set, the $XDG_USER_DATA is set to ~/.local/share
implicitly and correct action file should be found and used.

I use Openbox alone and PCManFM as well, everything works just fine.
May I see contents of your Actions Desktop Entry file, please?

Thank you very much for noticing this. Though it requires a bit more
than that in your patch otherwise you'll meet a crash as sel pointer is a
pointer provided by caller. And also there may be not provided any app as
default (in most of cases there is none). Thank you anyway, I'll do some
changes at that API later to correct the behavior.

Beginning with glib >= 2.41, g_app_info_get_all_for_type() no longer
puts the default application in front of the list.
So now we have to use g_app_info_get_default_for_type().

Israel on the Lubuntu users list urged me to bring my observations here. So: Plugging a Kodak EasyShare C182 (supporting PTP file transfer) into a Lubuntu 14.04.1 desktop over USB, it responds with: "Error initializing camera: -53: Could not claim the USB device" OK'ing out of that, it then offers to open the device in the file manager, where it mounts 3 filesystems. One with no contents, another with DCIM and MISC folders, and another with something-store1 and something-store2 folders. I have not tested rigorously, but it seems that the actual file collections are duplicates. If I then unmount one of the filesystems, it disappears, and the other two remain visible but not mounted. They disappear when I power off and unplug the camera. For comparison, under 13.04, the same camera responded: "Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device" And then it opened in the file manager, again showing 3 filesystems as above. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For a partial comparison, I plugged a Canon Powershot G1 into the 14.04.1 desktop and there was no error, it offered to open in file manager, and it showed 2 mounted filesystems, both with DCIM and MISC folders and duplicate file collections. If I unmount one of the instances it disappears and and the other remains visible but unmounted. That disappears when I power off and unplug the camera. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Searching for non-ancient explanations (of which there are many), I did find this popular bug: PTP Cameras not working on 14.04, works flawlessly on 12.04 <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1296275> But that report does not reference either of these errors, and my machine already has the prescribed libghoto2 update that should fix the described bug. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I installed Shotwell. Now plugging in a camera results in Shotwell being offered alongside the file manager as choices to mount the storage.** There is also a checkbox where one could choose to always use Shotwell instead of being offered the choice. [**Though for the Kodak there is still the initial Error -53 popup to OK through. I see this Launchpad Answer regarding error -53 and Shotwell, but it does not mention the multiple filesystems problem: Unable to fetch previews from the camera: Could not claim the USB device (-53) <https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+question/157569> ] The Shotwell interface reasonably shows just one filesystem represented for either the Canon or the Kodak. When one is done previewing/importing and closes Shotwell, it automatically unmounts the camera storage once again, and the camera can be unplugged. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ But after exiting Shotwell, if I then open PCManFM, I see just one, unmounted instance of the Canon (don't recall the Kodak behavior on this issue). If I try to mount it, I get an error: The name:1.30 was not provided by any .service files. (And I can OK out of there, but it does not mount the storage.) |

I've fixed that issue by latest commit into LibFM GIT. Thank you very
much!
With best regards,
Andriy.

Just an FYI heads-up for anyone building with gtk+3.0-3.13.7.
Both libfm and pcmanfm will build and operate mostly normally But you
will not be able to set or change in settings using Edit/Preferences
and no option window will open when removable media is inserted.
All still works normally with gtk+2.0 and lessor versions of gtk+3.0.

Hello everyone!
Few noticeable bugs were fixed so time for next update came. Tarballs
were created and uploaded to the sourceforge. Enjoy! Don't hesitate to
report any bugs yet not found! :)

I'll stop them myself. Hi everyone!
First bugfixing version of 1.2.x series of main LXDE file manager is
released last night. It has no new features after 1.2.0, only a lot of
bugs fixed, following main bugs tracker, bugs from these mailing lists,
and very few other sources. We sincerely hope it is mostly bugless now.
Enjoy and feel free to report any other bugs if you find any! :)
With best regards,
Andriy.
