I'm using PCManFM 1.2.0 and on the context menu on "Create New..." I'm missing an option to create symlinks (wasn't it already available in prior versions of PCManFM?).

The symlink cannot be abstract, it should always target some file in filesystem. It's why it is impossible to have it in "Create New..." submenu. It is available as option for selection in Edit menu instead though so you can create symlink(s) for selected file(s).

And if you mean a Shortcut option in versions prior to Templates support then creating new Application (desktop entry) file is more generic - just create a template file in ~/Templates with desired (template) content and desired (template) name - it will be shown in "Create New..." submenu exactly how you define it.

Theoretically creating a new symlink in this menu could open a subwindow and/or input field to navigate to or type the needed path.
