#728 Alternate menu key doesn't work properly

libfm (303)

For v.1.1.0 when a file is highlighted in pcmanfm and the user press the "alternate menu" button (the one on the right side of the space bar next to Ctl key), the menu that appears only lists the default options, as if nothing were highlighted. This function doesn't even work on a PCManFM window or the Desktop.

You can see it in this video: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/832939/AlternateMenuFail.ogv

Trying it in a virtualized Lubuntu 13.10 with PCManFM installed from Git repository, there's a partial solution: we can use the mentioned feature pressing Shift+AlternateMenu ONLY in PCManFM windows, not in Desktop.

You can see it in this video: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/832939/ShiftAlternateMenuWorks.ogv

DistroRelease: Lubuntu 13.04 & 13.10 daily build
Package: pcmanfm 1.1.0-0ubuntu2
PCManFM 1.1.0 and Git version

    The Folder context menu and the Selection context menu are completely different menus that have near nothing in common, if you haven't noticed that already. And behavior when:

    a) we have no selection - Menu key calls Folder menu;
    b) we have something selected - Menu key calls Selection menu but to call Folder menu we should do something else.

    is completely inconsistent. Therefore I made it that Menu key always shows the Folder menu and the Selection menu is available by pressing Shift+Menu key combination.

    If you think those aren't right key combinations then you can propose another ones and we'll discuss it and if everyone agree then we change it.

    As for not working Selection context menu keybinding on desktop - thank you very much, it will be fixed in version 1.2.

    For me, the Shift+Menu key combo is fine. No objection.

    Shift+Menu key doesn't work for me (on a Dell Inspiron 1525).

    I find the described behavior by @Istranger very weird. I navigate to a file selected by keyboard and press Menu Key, hoping for the Selection Menu, but the Folder Menu pops up. Then i have to use the mouse to right click the file so i can access the Selection Menu.

    Also, if the cursor isn't on the top of a file, the Menu Key does nothing.

    In Lubuntu 13.04 it was like this and is still wrong in 13.10 (pcmanfm 1.1.2).

    In regard of consistency with default behavior I've changed in LibFM GIT repository how keyboard shortcuts work now:

    "Menu" or "Shift+F10":
    - if there is a selection - shows selection menu popup;
    - if there is no selection - shows nothing.

    - shows folder menu popup.

    That should work for both folder view in tab and on desktop. Test it, please, and I hope it satisfies your request. Thank you very much.

    Sounds good! Thanks for taking your your time, lstranger. Forgive me, but do i need to compile it? Or will it be available in repositories through apt-get?

    It will be available in release 1.2, of course. Before the release it is available in daily builds for Lubuntu, and in GIT builds of other distros if said distro has such build. Look into LXDE wiki, please, page about building PCManFM has some more details.
