Context: PCManFM 1.3.2; Ubuntu 22.04 LTS; Samsung Galaxy S9; System76 Gazelle 17

Nautilus will nearly always successfuly display mounted phone top-level directory contents (Phone and dcim) but PCManFM usually does not.

To reproduce:

  1. Connect phone through USB (3 or 2) port
  2. Click "allow" on phone to allow MTP mount (but I don't click on "Open in File Manager" on the popups on laptop because it nearly always fails.)
  3. Note that "computer:///" tab displays SAMSUNG Android as folder (previously non-existent, or displayed as "mount point" if I had previously unmounted that volume)
  4. Right-click on "SAMSUNG Android" and select "open in new tab" reports "The specified directory 'computer:///SAMSUNG%20Android.volume' is not valid"
  5. Single left-click on "SAMSUNG Android" pops up "The name :1.8651 was not provided by any .service files" (or other 1:[four digits]
  6. Start Nautilus from icon (process reports command line "/usr/bin/nautilus --gapplication-service" which correctly displays the top-level phone "directories"
  7. Check again that PCManFM still doesn't correctly see the phone's directories.
  8. Sometimes, unmounting (Right-click on mtp in "Places" sidebar; select "unmount volume") then mount volume again (in "Places" sidebar) will then correctly display phone's contents, but that is rare.

Sometimes, PCManFM works as expected - clicking on the "SAMSUNG Android" item in the "computer:///" tab opens the phone's top-level directory; sometimes phone needs to be unmoounted in PCManFM, then re-mounted and it will work, but it's very inconsistent -- about 9/1 failure-success ratio. Phone always opens (when successful) as "mtp://SAMSUNG_SAMSUNG_Android_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/" (where the xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx correspond to the second (of three) of the "Service provider SW ver" values. (I've been unable to test the proper behaviour of "RIght-click/Open in new tab" this morning, but that is my usual method of opening files from a tab and I recall it always works correctly when the PCManFM recognises the phone correctly.)
