Hello List, Just wanted send a note to introduce myself and find out if this list was still active. I am concidering purchasing a 1623PC from SmartHome. As a linux only user I went looking for an alternative to the software that they provide, and here I am. A little about myself. I am blind and am looking for more control over my environment. I have recently hooked a vcr up to my box and am using it as a sudoTEVO. Blind, records tv? Gotcha curious didn't I? Well transmitted on the SAP channel of most major stations is a thing called DVS (Descriptive Video Service), which provides descriptions between the dialog. Thus making it possible for the visually impaired to enjoy television. Now the problem. The vcr remote it basically useless to me. Don't want to memorize the thing and changing channels is a bitch. In comes the 1623PC. It looks as if this is the solution I have been looking for, but before spending the $100 I wanted to get some feedback. So here I am. If this list is still active I will continue this discussion. If not, damn another hurdle to contend with. -- Keith Watson kw...@sm... Does anyone know the protocol to check a probe attached to the PC-IRLinc? I know the device doesn't offer up any status change info on its own over RS232. Perhaps there is a code to send to enable events, but I'm guessing one has to poll it somehow. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! I am building a device using IR. it has a 8Mhz crystal, so it can do 125000 baud. for testing purposes I would like to have it communicate with the IR port on my laptop. I would want to use a some program where I can control the bits being sent and received directly to see if my device works. Can I set my computer to do 125000baud, or is it limited to standard baudrates like 9600, 115200? Is there a program that I can use to control the bits being sent and received directly? |
