'Aliasing' is the effect that makes your lines and curves look jagged. It is all about discrete sampling of continous curves, resulting in lower frequencies punching through (the jaggies). But in short - you really want to avoid aliasing.

You actually desire (and provide) anti-aliased charts through an anti-aliasing algorithm.
