Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

I'm not too worried. For philosophical reasons I prefer the GPL, followed by the LGPL, but I'll go with what everyone else chooses. The MIT seems to be compatible with the BSD license and a little bit weaker. Either seems fine. -- Michael On Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at 05:33 AM, David Given wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > A few days ago, someone got in touch with me who wanted to use PCEmu > in a > commercial product, goodness knows why. =2D----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 A few days ago, someone got in touch with me who wanted to use PCEmu in a=20 commercial product, goodness knows why. I redirected him to the list, but I= =20 had a quick look at the PCEmu license, and found this: =2D ---snip--- Permission is granted to use, copy, modify, and distribute this software and its documentation for any non-commercial purpose, ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ provided that the above copyright notice appear in all copies and that both that copyright notice and this permission notice appear in the supporting documentation. =2D ---snip--- Oh, dear. That would make PCEmu non-DSFG free. Given that the PCEmu licensing is a bit of a mess anyway, would it make sen= se=20 to try and get this sorted out? We'd need to contact all the various people= =20 responsible. Hi! > Sorry. Just checking to see if the list is still alive. Well, it still works. :-) I haven't fiddled with pcemu for months now, since I've lost my Solaris access. :-/ And on Linux, there are sort of nice alternatives... > BTW, does anyone know the mailing list admin address and password? You wish. ;-) Best greetings from Germany, Moritz :-) |

For reference, I've sent the admin URL and password to David. I had a little bit of fun with pcemu about six months ago - experimented with lazy flag evaluation and had a go at writing a transcoder to convert the native code into something easier for my Mac to interpret. Came out quite elegant but it was too messy to check in and not really in the spirit of pcemu. Can't tell if either sped things up as the dhrystone test I was using consisted of a couple of nasty, tiny loops. -- Michael On Saturday, March 1, 2003, at 12:03 AM, David Given wrote: > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- > Hash: SHA1 > > Sorry.
