Dear friends, PC-BSD just got released and the whole PC-BS team and the entire PC-BSD community thanks you a lot for your excellent job doing the translations. Sometime a few minutes in the evening, a few hours on the week-end translating, contributed with other translators help, resulted in a solid system translated in more than 50 different languages. This, thanks to you! I promise, next time there will a lot less work translating, trust me! :) Thanks again! -- Charles A. Landemaine. |

Dear translators, First off, I'd like to congratulate you for your help, as our joint work has paid off :) In a month of intensive work looking for translators in forums, mailing lists, communities, friends, relatives, we have been able to translate PC-BSD into... Fourty different languages so far! This is more than ever expected, and this is thanks to you all! :) We extended the deadline to one more week for you to hand over the last languages, as there are still 20 languages that should be ready in a few days :) Most of them are being completed or reviewed. If, for some reason, you haven't started translating yet, but you are interested in helping out, although there is no one to help you, please get in touch with me ASAP so that I concentrate my efforts to finding another translator in your native language to help you out! Also, the one-week deadline is not "strict", in other words, if we see that one week from now, your language is only missing 2 files, we might give you a few more days, as we want to have as many translations as possible to release PC-BSD ;) For the translations that are done, if you have time, you can review them and bring corrections (just get in touch with me). Full list of language files: http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=3D14548 Thanks again for your help and keep up the great work! -- Charles A. Landemaine. |

Hi, I am Charles from PC-BSD. We are about to release PC-BSD 1.0 Final in a few weeks, and we have done major changes to the system. Today we completed the language files in English, and we can start translating PC-BSD into many different languages! To start translating, please follow this tutorial: http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3D2222 and then have a look at the official list of translators here: http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=3D9553 under your language section, maybe there are other people already listed to help you out Once you are done translating, please gather all files, make sure you didn't forget any, and send them to my e-mail address: ch...@au... This is the final run before 1.0 Release! As soon as we have all translations, we'll have PC-BSD 1.0 final! Thank you very much for your help - If you need help, feel free to get in touch with me, or discuss it on the Translation Forum: http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=3D10 Warm Regards, Charles. ______________________________ PS: There are still languages that don't have translators yet - If you could spread the world in forums, newsgroups, friends and family, so that we can find translators for the following languages, that would be awesome! http://www.auriance.com/docs/pcbsd/translations/missing.txt |

Are you in the docs-mailinig list? I wrote some ideas there. You could write a detailed how-to of solving common problems. Maybe something from your experience. Describe for example a problem you had and how did you solve it. I am writing down a howto for laptop users. You can write tutorials for some UNIX concepts like permissions, users, groups etc. I see many people in the forums that don't know about those things. If you want to write for the FAQ right now i would like to collect a list of hardware that is reported to work . Finally you could write a some tips/help for an application you use. For example: What app do you use to get your mail? How did you set it up? Are there any nice features that you use and think others will find helpfull? and so on. Can we please move this to the docs mail list? This is the translation list. If you haven't signed up do it here: http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/pcbsd-docs Theodore. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I agree with u, it's not as important as a good, coherent, well-compiled handbook. --- "Charles A. I've also got the message about the wiki vs handbook or both... Then the way could also be to create a coherent document, and make it available in pdf or anything else, and also split it into html files, just like the freebsd handbook http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ berVi --- "Charles A. We are going to have both. :) The other thing is that i accidentaly send this to the translation mail list instead of the documentation mail list. The wiki is simple to write and has help under it explaining the tags when you edit. You need to have a password to edit and as i said to the email i send you and the rest of the people who were interested in helping writing documentation i could send you usernames/passwords if you need to edit either the faq or the wiki. I hope you have registered in the mail list. I am planning to put up a poll on the forums later tonight asking if we need to have both a WIki and a Handbook. I think that both of them would cover the same issues twice so it is not neccessary to have both. I prefer a handbook where it could be downloaded and/or included in the cd but i'll wait to see what the poll results. Theodore. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ok guys / gals, got a new program which needs translation for 0.8.3. http://www.pcbsd.org/files/InstallLang_en.ts.tar This is the program which requests the 2nd Installation CD to load the KDE lang packs. You can create your translations with the "linguist" tool under PC-BSD or Linux. Once you have created your new .ts file(s), upload it to our translation server. ftp://pcbsd.homeunix.org Username: translation Password: No password, just login NOTE: Do not worry about any special tags in the translations, such as (sp) or (new line). Just do your translations like normal. If there are carriage returns, just hit "enter" like normal, no special codes needed. The software will take care of it for you. Its also not too late to add a new translation to the OS as a whole. Please translate the PC-BSD 0.8 files, and upload them as well. http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1142 http://www.pcbsd.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1366 -- Kristofer Moore |
