I installed the latest version of PC-Basic, and created a test program which I successfully saved; however, when I do a search for the file it is not found. I also manually searched the C:\Users\ (my name) folder, and did not find the file. I can exit out of PC-Basic, re-enter and load the file so it must be somewhere, but where? Thanks, for any assistance.

The location you're looking at is the expected location if you start PC-BASIC from the start menu. If you're starting from the command prompt, the current directory in the command prompt will be the default location for PC-BASIC to save its programs.

Note that if you're starting from the command prompt and the current directory is a Windows operating system location, things get a bit difficult, as Windows starts messing around with you to protect its operating system files.

In Windows 7, files saved to a directory such as C:\Windows\System then Windows will move the files to an overlay location at C:\Users\ (your name) \AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows\system. It's probably slightly different for different versions of Windows. For the program that does the saving (in this case PC-BASIC) the files are visible as if nothing happened, but you can't see them in Windows Explorer unless you go to the VirtualStore location.

Regardless of what is actually going on, an easy way to find the location of the files is to create a new file in PC-BASIC with a distinctive name and then use the search box in Windows Explorer to look for files of that name (select Computer first to make sure it searches everywhere) .

I created a new file in PC-BASIC and saved it. I used the search box in Windows Explorer, but the file could not be found. How do you select "Computer" first? Do you search for "Computer [PC-BASIC filename]"?

First click on 'Computer' in the column on the left. It should now say 'Search Computer' in the search box on the top right. Then use the search box to find your file.

I wrote a program called WXYZ and saved it. I searched for WXYZ.bas in My PC (it doesn't say "computer"). No results found. I'm running Wiindows 10, and I enabled indexing for all my folders. I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

I'm sorry, but if that does not work I am out of ideas. I am unfamiliar with (and do not have access to) Windows 10, so I'm afraid I can not help you with that. Perhaps you can ask a Windows forum on how to find files on your version of Windows.

I found the files! They were in c:\users\me\appdata\local\virtualstore\program files (x86)\pc-basic. I found them from a post you did a while back. Still, I cannot find them via Windows search. Anyway, thanks for your help in your previous post.
