Ok, this is not quite a PC-basic fault, although it is to do with the folder/directory containing the PC basic files.

Each time I start up my computer, I get as many as four directory-windows pop up, including two of PC Basic, ever since the moment I uploaded PC basic onto my computer.

The other two are not to do with PC basic, but of other downloads I have done. It is clearly a Windows10 issue. I do hope somebody can direct me to how to stop this happening.

Also, why do you have files across two directories. One includes settings file all by itself. Would there be any harm if I moved that file over into the directory with the other files?

Hey, that must be really annoying. I'm not sure what causes these popups - PC-BASIC isn't popping up any windows itself.

You describe the popups as 'directory-windows' popups but I'm not sure what you mean. Perhaps you could add a screeshot or a paste the window text in here, so I or others may be able to figure out what they are exactly and how to get rid of them. I'm not familiar with Windows 10, unfortunately, and I don't have access to a W10 install I can try this on. (If anyone else on the forum has experience with this issue, please chip in here!)

The reason there are files in two directories is that one is a program files directory and the other is a writeable directory for files under Application Data. Windows (and other OSes) do not allow a program to write to the program files directory, for good security reasons, so the files generated at runtime must be stored in the AppData folder. This is not unusual, by the way - it is the setup that's recommended by Microsoft. The one file you refer to is probably the configurations file PCBASIC.INI or the file that saves your session. Unfortunately, moving them will not really help as they will be regenerated by PC-BASIC if it cannot find them.

What I am talking about is, the window containing all files in a particular directory.

The irony is, I may have found the issue. While searching for the settings after your response in the other forum thread.

The one file by itself, is Settings.lnk, and is where I edit the settings for PC-Basic. The other directory has PC-BASIC.lnk, Documentation.lnk and uninstal.lnk

I found out about a Quck access feature, and from there I can pin directories to come up automatically. I need only de-select the items there, and should solve the problem.

My experience in computer programming is limited to Basic, and various internet ones such as HTML, JS etc, and a bit of PHP there too.
