In the synaptics sources I found that there is an option for a "Repeater"
device:

The Option "Repeater" is at the moment for testing.

I enabled it and /dev/ps2mouse appeared. But I can't read anything from
the device with cat.

Is this in any way related to the "new virtual input device" you mentioned?
