When I choose a backup set, which is located on a CD and try to start the restore, a "Mount Disk for restore" Dialog appears. It links to this directory by default.
"C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Patrix\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\Microsoft\CD Burning\"
The programm, doesnt find any files there, so the dialog is logical, but why does it search the files there, instead of using the cdrom drive.
(It is not possible, to choose the cd drive from this dialog. It always changes the location path automatically back)
Ive found a workaround. Just copying the files manually to this location, but that is not the way it should be. ;-)
Where is the error ?
(The Microsoft Direct Burning Feature !?!)
(Internal link from cdrom drive to the location above ?)
Thanx
Patrick

However I think the windows XP burning software is causing confusion. Try selecting properties from the cd drive and turn off the checkbox "enable cd recording on this drive". If you need that for recording you can turn it on again later. Also make sure there are no files waiting to be written to the CD when you do the restore. I don't know if this will help, but if it does please let me know.

Another thing you can try, when you see the "mount disk for restore" dialog, instead of using the "Browse" button to find the disk, just type in the path (e.g. d:\ or d:\xxxxx) and click OK.

I've tried restoring off of a CD-RW mounted in a DVD -ROM drive. It tells me:
"FILE
You do not have permission to save in this directory.
See the administrator to obtain permission.
Would you like to save in the My Documents folder instead?"
I don't ever want to save to my source media during a restore.
This is probably why Patrick ends up in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Patrix\Lokale Einstellungen\Anwendungsdaten\Microsoft\CD Burning\" because that's where all files to be saved to the CD are stored until the burning starts.
Is there a flag to tell the dialog to open the directory for read only that should be used?

I have had no problem restoring off a CDRW in a DVD-ROM or DVD-RW drive.
There is no message in the program like the one you mentioned. I don't know where it is coming from.
The backup source is always opened for read only. It will not save to it unless you specify it as the restore destination. Try putting in a restore destination, e.g. c:\temp. You can copy files to the correct destination afterwards.
Can you explain the exact sequence of what you did, and in what stage of the process that message appeared. There are various ways of doing a restore and maybe there is a problem with one way. For example, did you open the PB1 file and then restore, or did you open a backup set from the restore page ?
Do you have some unusual security software on your system ? Try logging on as an administrator before restoring.
