    GDay,
Lets say I have been backing up incremental backups for a while and the HDD dies on me.
Would I be able to reinstall PBackup and recover my old files, with full backup history, from the backup disks?
The question in another way is, where is the details about the backup, history, increment details kept ? Is it kept with the actual backup file/s (CD, DVD, Floppy) or is it kept on the Hard drive ?
Another question: What happens if the Full backup (that incremental backups depend on) gets corrupted; would I be able to restore atleast part of the data from the incremental backup ?
Last question : Is the incremental backup fully dependant on the Full backup or the previous incremental backup ?  Ie: if one of the incremental backups gets corrupted, can I recover files from the last incremental backup ?

Sorry for being a pain in the butt with these questions !!
    Cheers
    Janaka

Answer : YES, just install pbackup, go to the restore tab, click "Get History". It will prompt you for all of your backup disks and will recreate the backup history on the hard drive.

The question in another way is, where is the details about the backup, history, increment details kept ? Is it kept with the actual backup file/s (CD, DVD, Floppy) or is it kept on the Hard drive ?
ANSWER: It is kept on both. Each backup file has its own history and a file on the hard drive has the combined history. That file on the hard drive can be recovered using the "Get History" button.

Another question: What happens if the Full backup (that incremental backups depend on) gets corrupted; would I be able to restore atleast part of the data from the incremental backup ?
ANSWER: Use the "Get History" button to create an amended history. For example if the full backup is lost or bad, identify the file name on the backup media and rename or move it. Then use "Get History" and you will create a history that excludes the full backup.

Last question : Is the incremental backup fully dependant on the Full backup or the previous incremental backup ? Ie: if one of the incremental backups gets corrupted, can I recover files from the last incremental backup ?
ANSWER: Another way of doing a restore is to go to the "Restore" tab and click "Backup Set". There you can select a backup set from your hard drive (PB2 file), or you can mount your backup media and select one on the PB2 files from there. If you select a file from the backup media then you will be restoring just from that particular incremental or full backup. Note that if a PB2 file on the backup media takes more than one disk you have to mount the last disk to get the history.
