My company is using Password Safe V3.44 on Windows 7 and I have a user who when starting Password Safe, gets the error message below:

Configuration file error:
No document element found
C:\Users(username)\AppData\Local\PasswordSafe\pwsaf.cfg
offset approximately at 1310

There is the option to press OK, and the app opens and from there, I can redirect to the user's file without issue, but how do we get rid of this error.

I have manually removed the application and reinstalled and the error persists. I was unable to find this error either on this forum or the internet in general, and it has not occured within my company before. Due to compliance issues within my company, I cannot use another version of this software, so I need to get it working correctly with the version we have.

Thank you in advance.

Looks like the configuration file was somehow corrupted, or perhaps an encoding error?
If you can send me a sanitzed version, that would help narrow down the problem. (the file is in XML, which can be read with any text editor).

As a workaround, just delete the file. PasswordSafe will lose the history of recently opened safes, the last position/size of the window, and some other preferences, but the defaults are reasonable, and can be set again.

Hi Rony - Thanks for your help. Given your suggestion, I renamed the config file. I then created one on my machine and modified it's properties to match those of my user and placed it in the correct location. This resolved my issue.

    Thanks again!
