Hi, You're receiving this message because you're subscribed to a PasswordSafe related mailing list. If you're subscribed to more than one such list, you may receive this more than once - if so, my apologies. As you can see, PasswordSafe has been nominated as a candidate for July's project-of-the-month on SourceForge. If you can take a minute or two to vote for PasswordSafe, I'd be very grateful. Even better - forwards this request to your friends as well. What's in it for me, you ask? Well, being project of the month means more exposure, which means more people will download it, install and run it, and some of those will have suggestions that would help make the next version even better. That, for me, at least, is what's best about free and Open Source software - suggestions and contributions from users and developers over the years have made PasswordSafe much more useful *for me* than I could possibly have done by myself. So please hop over to http://twtpoll.com/xmrzlp and vote for your favorite password manager :-) - see below for details. Thanks! Rony ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Chris Tsai <ct...@sl...> Date: Wed, Jun 5, 2013 at 4:35 PM Subject: July SourceForce Project of the Month Ballot To: sfcommunity <com...@so...> Dear SourceForge project admin, Your project has been selected to be on the ballot for the July SourceForge project of the Month. This vote will be conducted on TwtPoll, and will run until June 26th. The blog post linking to this vote is at http://sourceforge.net/blog/potm-vote-201307/ and the vote itself is at http://twtpoll.com/xmrzlp (Yes, voters will need to have a Twitter account to vote. This is the only way, so far, that we have found to keep the vote honest.) The project of the month gets listed at the top of the front page of the SourceForge.net website. This, in turn, will be linked to an interview about your project which will remain on our site, and linked from your project page, in perpetuity, in which you can talk about your project, your community, and so on. Interviews can be conducted by email, or irc, as you prefer, and depending on the timezones of various participants. You'll also be listed on http://sourceforge.net/potm Thanks so much for being part of the SourceForge community, and may be best project win! There is no "make help install", just "make help". You have to copy the help.zip file thus produced to the location I mentioned in my last post. > it does not seem to be intervening in Firefox with password dialogs. > How is it supposed to work in the browser? I'm not sure what you mean by "intervening in Firefox with password dialogs". Please explain. I already explained how it is supposed to work in my last post. Saurav. |

The dependencies are listed from a Ubuntu/Debian perspective. You must be having the equivalent headers and libraries required to build it. Also, the "release" target actually builds "unicoderelease". Anyway, it built for you, so great! To build the help file, run "(g)make help". Copy the help.zip produced to /usr/share/doc/passwordsafe/help/. Perhaps I misunderstood you when you asked "Does it auto-fill username and password in web forms?". PasswordSafe is not integrated directly with Firefox or any other browser. It doesn't automatically sense that it has to auto-fill web forms. When you want it to auto-fill, you have to select the corresponding entry in PasswordSafe, right-click and select "Auto Type". PasswordSafe will then simulate the keystrokes for your username/password (or however you may have set up autotype for that entry or that password db). That causes the web form to fill up without you having to enter the form entries manually. That is all that autotype does. In this respect, PasswordSafe might be different from other browser-based web-form automation solutions. However, there is a (yet unimplemented in Linux) feature called "Browse to URL and autotype" that causes the default browser to navigate to a site, wait for the navigation to complete, and then perform autotype. But you still have to initiate the process. PasswordSafe will not watch your browser and automatically kick in when a form needs to be auto-filled. And once again, this feature is currently only implemented on Windows. PasswordSafe has limited support for importing passwords from other applications. Firefox and kWallet are not among them. But if you can export your passwords from those applications as comma or tab separated text or XML files, you can import them into PasswordSafe. The panel icon, if I understand correctly what you mean by that, is problematic on some platforms, notably those running Unity. It mostly works on other platforms. It should be green or red, depending on whether you have the db locked or open. Its black when you don't have any password db loaded. Right-clicking on it should bring up a context menu. If it doesn't seem to work, try to position your mouse pointer such that the tip of it is over a non-transparent part of the icon. If you just close the main window, passwordsafe (with default settings) just hides the window but keeps running in the background. You can "Restore" the window from the tray icon (panel icon). Its a feature, not a bug :-) Saurav. |

Thanks. I find that a number of the Debian dependencies are not available in Manjaro 64bit, like: libuuid1 libwxgtk2.8-dev libwxgtk2.8-dbg libxerces-c-dev uuid-dev And it's make, rather than gmake. I was able to compile with 'make release'. I copied src/ui/wxWidgets/GCCUnicodeRelease to /usr/local/bin and it runs. But every time I start it it says there is no help system and that help will not be available. On Tuesday, June 04, 2013 10:37:50 AM Saurav Ghosh wrote: > > Does it auto-fill username and password in web forms? (Firefox) > It does. That feature is called "AutoType". Do I have to manually add them every time by filling in all the fields of pwsafe? Is there any way to import the passwords from Firefox? Is there any way to import the passwords from kwallet? The panel icon is non-functional. (XFCE) It's there (barely visible on a black panel), and the tooltip comes up, but clicking it has no effect on the main window. And Quitting the main window leaves the panel icon there. |

The AUR package is quite old in Manjaro, so I downloaded the source and tried to compile. But there are absolutely no instructions or configure file, and the compile fails miserably. I've already posted the errors on the forum twice, but it keeps logging me out. Has anyone been able to compile this? Does it auto-fill username and password in web forms? (Firefox) Is there an android app? |

Bugs fixed in 3.30 ================== [3556730] In Add/Edit dialog, clicking Apply no longer disables the OK button. An asterisk (*) is displayed in the title bar when the entry's modified and Apply's not clicked upon. Thanks to shivak7 for the fix. [3539347] An empty diamond icon is now updated to a full one when an entry is dragged into it. Thanks to nsaipraveen for the fix. [3537861] An off-by-one issue with expiration dates has been fixed by suthakar123. [1066] Default changed: 'Browse to URL' does not copy password to clipboard by default. Hi, I've uploaded a pre-release version of PasswordSafe 3.30, plus the .po files with the new strings for translation. This is a stabilization/bugfix release, no new user-visible features have been added, so that the changes to the translations should be minor. Schedule: I'd like to release this version towards the end of December. The files may be found in the directory that DK set up, which also includes tools and instructions for those interested in making their own dlls for testing: https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Translation%20Tools%20for%20Windows%20%28MFC%29%20Version/ (http://tinyurl.com/6fgecno) The new files are under the 3.30pre folder in the above. I'd also like to release the corresponding Linux version at the same time. Please contact me if you'd like to work on the translation for this, and don't know where to find the .po files. Thanks in advance for your help in making PasswordSafe accessible all over the world! Cheers, Rony -- Ubi dubium, ibi libertas (where there is doubt, there is freedom) |

Hi, SourceForge has re-organized their site (again), and as part of this, they've moved our project's Subversion repository. The new URL for the repository is svn+ssh://US...@sv.../p/passwordsafe/code/trunk/pwsafe/pwsafe where 'USER' is your SourceForge username. Unfortunately, this is a dump/restore of the old repository, so that a 'relocate' of your working copy won't work. You need to checkout this repo from scratch. Please make sure to switch to the new repository before committing. The old repository still works, but I won't be building from it any more. Sorry about the inconvenience. Cheers, Rony |

Hi, It's been a while but packages for the above have finally been built and uploaded. The packages are built for Debian 6.05 and Ubuntu 12.04, both on 32 bit architectures (*). The deb files can be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Linux-BETA/0.8.0/ Thanks to sauravg, mniklas and pm_kan for their help on this version. This release fixes quite a bit of the issues reported for 0.7, as well as implementing some of the newer features of the Windows version, notable named password policies. The README for Mac was wrong about pwsafe-i386 needing pwsafe-i386-*.xcconfig. It uses pwsafe-{release,debug}.xcconfig from the "pwsafe" target. I corrected that in the README. Thanks for pointing out. The "Generate version.h" build phase was somehow set to run only for deployments (for the i386 target only). I removed that. Now the i386 target should build without you having to manually mess with version.{h,in}, just like other targets. Please give it a try. Just to be sure, remove your Xcode/build* directories first and run the same "xcodebuild ..." command as below, in the pwsafe/Xcode directory. Thanks for digging into it! Saurav. version.h is generated automatically from version.in by Misc/mkversion.plas part of building any of the pwsafe* targets in Xcode. Did that step not run at all? Can you post the build log? Just as a note, two of the targets (pwsafe-llvm and pwsafe64) shouldn't need the 10.4u SDK, but I haven't tried building them on a system (Xcode 4?) where that SDK is not installed already. Saurav. problems i had, and solutions i found. maybe it's just me, as i haven't used xcode much yet, but following the README.MAC instructions i had these problems, mainly that version.h couldn't be found for some files in the src/ui/wxWidgets directory I guessed that version.in was the real version.h and some preprocessing doesn't happen with the README steps so ln -s src/ui/wxWidgets/version.in version.h and src/ui/wxWidgets/safecombinationentry.cpp needed #include "version.h" i added it after #include <wx/version.h> oh, and had to install the SDK 10.4u from the Xcode3.2.6 download seems to be working now with those minimal changes, thanks for this version. Hi, Version 0.7 of PasswordSafe for Linux is available for download. Thanks to Sauravg and pm_kan for their work on this release. Currently we provide precompiled .deb packages for 32 bit Ubuntu and Debian distributions. PasswordSafe is known to build and run under 64 bit platforms and other distributions as well. Please drop me a note if you're interested in helping create packages for more platforms. Notes regarding Ubuntu's Unity desktop: 1. Unity has some rather strict ideas as to what can and can't be displayed as a system tray icon, with PasswordSafe falling under the latter category. Therefore we recommend the Mnage->Options->Put icon in System Tray checkbox be turned *OFF* for this platform. 2. Under the latest Ubuntu release (11.10), the Notes field in the Password Entry's details is unreadable. We are currently investigating this. The Linux packages may be downloaded from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Linux-BETA/0.7.0/password safe-ubuntu-0.7.0BETA.i686.deb/download http://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Linux-BETA/0.7.0/password safe-debian-0.7.0BETA.i686.deb/download SHA-1 checksums: 4333ec1498bfee24da5868ceb982c2ad73248acd passwordsafe-debian-0.7.0BETA.i686.deb 29cadb83bb996c230ffac267b8e5ade646c73cac passwordsafe-ubuntu-0.7.0BETA.i686.deb Note that this release also includes PGP/GPG signature files of the respective packages. These were signed with my SourceForge account key, keyid FA175557, key fingerprint = FF77 379D D46D DAA6 6182 B452 1D79 5A91 FA17 5557, available from a PGP keyserver near you (such as http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0xFA175557). Hi, I just downloaded and installed 0.6 beta on Ubuntu 11.04 and haven't had any issues with it but was wondering how would I go about uninstalling it if it starts to give trouble? Ubuntu complained at first that it was a poor quality program and might might break my system, etc, etc. I appears to run fine but I looked and it doesn't show up in Synaptic at all and running a locate command in the terminal doesn't find it. BTW thanks for building one to run natively on Linux, I've been using the Windows version with Wine for some time now and I really love the program. Eric -- Soli Deo Gloria |

Hi, Release 0.6 Beta of the Linux version of PasswordSafe has been uploaded to https://sourceforge.net/projects/passwordsafe/files/Linux-BETA/0.6.0/ Thanks to Saurav for doing most of the work for this release, to pm_kan for his help, and to all who wrote with suggestions, requests, comments and patches. This is the first release with a 64bit version (for Ubuntu). I'd be interested in any feedback on this build in particular. Enjoy, Rony |

Here are some tips for those wanting to run Password Safe on Linux distro's other than Debian and Ubuntu. I used Alien - a Perl script that converts one package manager format to another - to convert the Ubuntu DEB packages to RPM's. This allowed me to run both Ubuntu versions on openSUSE 11.3 32 bit. Version 0.1-1 worked well and 0.3 worked even better. But since then, I moved to a new machine running openSUSE 11.3 64 bit. Now the RPM's won't build because there are so many missing libraries and I can't find them in the repositories. So for now I'm back to running Password Safe under Wine - which I've been doing since version 2.16 back in '06! It works really well under Wine. In fact, I used to be the Super Maintainer for Password Safe at WineHQ.. About the only functions that don't work are the ability to open a login page in your browser and auto-login. There is no 64-bit build, but the 32-bit build should work on 64-bit OS if you have all the required 32-bit libraries. |
