#694 Extend functionality to include software key protection
After recently undergoing a system rebuild - I discovered that I had never consistently managed my software product keys, Wouldn't it be great if "like my password safe" that held all my user account and password information, if I could do similar for my software.
Nice to have would be features that would allow me to also include software audit data, i.e. software, data of purchase, version information, installation platform, license renewal notification, contact details for support... etc.
Not sure why software product keys need to be protected like passwords, instead of, say, in a small spreadsheet. If you want to use PasswordSafe for this, though, you should be able to do so with a bit of imagination and judicious use of the Notes field.

Perhaps it is as you say... I have as you have suggested used the notes
field for this purpose, and the expiry fields to notify me of pending
renewals.
I liked the idea of using the password field to be able to copy the keys
into the clipboard, for subsequent pasting.
If you think it's a bad idea, or the wrong context, that's fine.

I have been using PWsafe to manage my keys in this manner, by putting the keys in the PW field and putting N/A in the uname field. However I use this on a personal (smaller scale) level so it's not a huge process for me to use/manage. If you are using this on a grander scale for product keys then this doesn't seem like it would be as helpful as a spreadsheet.
