I am using Linux Mint v20.2-Cinnamon along with "passwordsafe-linuxmint20-1.14-amd64.deb". It would seem like behavior would be different, especially when the 'tray icon' is active. because by default, which has no 'system tray' icon, I can sort of see why things behave like they do (which behavior seems to be mostly okay (although only way to close out of the locked Password Safe program is to right click the password safe icon in the taskbar and select 'close' (which seems a bit odd, since that's not the typical way we close a program, but maybe this was intended(?))). but when the 'tray icon' is visible it would seem like it should behave a bit differently (as it's a bit buggy). ill explain a bit further...

-Default behavior (i.e. NO 'system tray' icon)...

you load up Password Safe and enter master password then it gives you access to the password safe database file as expected. then if you click the 'Lock' (or wait until it auto-locks after a period of time) it automatically minimizes to the taskbar. to continue further use one can click on the taskbar icon and then enter the master password to proceed use like usual. but it seems the only way to close the program (so that it's not running) at this point is to right click the Password Safe icon on the taskbar and select 'close'. or... if you left click the taskbar icon of password safe, still in a locked state, it brings up the 'enter safe combination' window and one can minimize it back to taskbar by clicking the 'cancel' or 'x'(close) in top right corner of that 'enter safe combination' window etc, which this behavior seems reasonable (although it would be nice to be able to close out of the program without having to right click the program on taskbar and select 'close').

but here is where things react differently then one would expect (given the above behavior) with system tray icon active...

-System tray icon visible in taskbar (i.e. Manage > Options > System > System Tray. then select 'Put icon in System Tray')...

you load up Password Safe and enter master password then it gives you access to the password safe database file as expected. then if you click 'Lock' (or wait until it auto-locks after a period of time), instead of automatically minimizing (so that the 'enter safe combination' screen is not visible), it stays on the screen and there is no way to minimize it at this point (short of right clicking taskbar icon and selecting 'minimize' which is not really a typical way to do things) where as before (when password safe was in it's default state so no tray icon) you could click 'cancel or 'x'(close) on that 'enter password safe' screen to minimize it (also, right clicking the password safe tray icon does nothing either at this point, so no way to exit etc).

but I noticed if instead of clicking 'Lock' (or waiting until it auto-locks after a period of time) that if you right click the password safe tray icon and click 'Lock Safe' that at this point the 'enter safe combination' screen disappears (which I would think would be expected given we now have a 'tray icon' to access it) and if I left click the 'tray icon' the 'enter password safe' screen now becomes visible again (but at this point if one hits 'cancel' or 'x' there is no way to get rid of it short of right clicking the password safe taskbar icon and clicking 'minimize'). in the default behavior clicking 'cancel' or 'x' on that 'enter safe combination' window would minimize it to taskbar, but this does not occur with 'system tray' icon active.

Another issue... one last thing where there is a small issue/bug in regards to 'default' vs 'tray icon' behavior where the 'default' works as expected where as with 'tray icon' active it does not when it comes to where the password safe open program window is displayed on the screen (like the main window that shows your password entries etc). because I generally place it in the lower right area of my screen and with the default password safe behavior it stays that way (which is expected), but with the 'tray icon' active, while it's initially where I placed it, once the program 'locks' (through clicking the 'Lock' or waiting until it auto-locks after a period of time passes) and I re-enter password, the active password safe program window (like where it shows your password entries etc) is now in the center of my screen when it should have remained where I placed it (which in the bottom right area).

so it would be nice if some of this stuff could be tweaked a bit, especially in regards to when the 'tray icon' is active with Password Safe since that's pretty much when things don't function like you would expect. but with that said, none of what I said here is a show stopper issue though as it's more of a inconvenience etc.

so in short... the 'tray icon' behavior is buggy basically. not a show stopper, but could use some refining ;)
