On ubuntu 14.04, both right and left click on tray icon open the main menu, just like pressing ctrl+alt+p, where in the past one of then (left click IIRC) would open the history menu (ctrl+alt+h)

i found nowhere a option to change this behavior, but i tried to remove the old config from previous versions and didn't resolve the issue.

This is a Unity 'Feature'. All systray icons must behave the same. Apparently, the Unity developers felt that a left-click and right-click was too confusing for some users, and that all icons should behave exactly the same.

I have no control over that, and Unity is the ONLY desktop manager I had to put in 'special code' for.

There is a workaround, but you will need to install the non-libappindicator version of parcellite:
    Please see http://parcellite.sourceforge.net/
    'Nice workaround for Unity'

Uninstall Unity and use something else - just make sure that libappindicator is removed as well, and the icon will behave as expected.
