Hi:

It would be nice to define different defaults in a configuration file like /etc/paps.conf:

Application Options:
--landscape Landscape output. (Default: portrait)
--columns=NUM Number of columns output. (Default: 1)
--font=DESC Set the font description. (Default: Monospace 12)
--rtl Do rtl layout.
--justify Do justify the lines.
--paper=PAPER Choose paper size. Known paper sizes are legal,
letter, a4. (Default: a4)
--bottom-margin=NUM Set bottom margin. (Default: 36)
--top-margin=NUM Set top margin. (Default: 36)
--right-margin=NUM Set right margin. (Default: 36)
--left-margin=NUM Set left margin. (Default: 36)
--header Draw page header for each page.
--encoding=ENCODING Assume the documentation encoding.
--lpi=REAL Set the amount of lines per inch.
--cpi=REAL Set the amount of characters per inch.

In particular, CUPS' texttopaps defaults to the compiled defaults which aren't always desired.
