Hello Ian, =20 You can make such adjustments (such as unsubscribing) via email by sending = a message to: =20 Pan...@li...=20 =20 with the word `help' in the subject or body (don't include the quotes), and you will get back a message with instructions. =20 Thanks, =20 Jim >>> "Ian Lee-Duncan" <ia...@le...> 06/20/07 10:52 AM >>> All Panicbutton users, I couldn=92t get on with Panicbutton as I am not = sufficiently knowledgeable. All Panicbutton users, I couldn't get on with Panicbutton as I am not sufficiently knowledgeable. Please delete me from user lists. Thank you. Ian Lee-Duncan |

Hello, I was wondering if there is a way to make the from: email address dynamic. For example, Panic Button can dynamically grab the username of the current user by specifying "%username%". Is it possible to set the from: email address to something like "%username%@domain.com"? Thanks for your help, and great work so far! Jim |

Problem 2 normally happens when the SMTP server settings aren't right. Version 2.3 added support for TLS/SSL - this is required if you wish to use GMail as the SMTP server (not if you just want to send e-mails to a GMail account). If you're wanting to use GMail as the SMTP server, let me know - it's a bit complicated, but I'll help you sort it out. > SO - I think I should download PB v3 (but not in German!), but should I > delete the existing program before downloading, or does it update what I've > got already? It's largely up to you. You can uninstall first if you wish. If you don't, the new version will replace the existing version, and keep your settings. However, if you don't uninstall first, make sure Panic Button isn't running when you install. > I would be most grateful for your help, and if I am sending this to the > wrong address to sort my problems, I will certainly redirect it. Not a problem. Sorry for the delay in replying - I was away for the weekend. I've CC'd this to the Panic Button users list, so that people having the same questions in future have a chance to find the answers. If you use "Reply All" in your e-mail client, then your reply should go to the list as well as to me. Russ |

Wow, I didn't even know Panic Button was on the Computer Active web site. As for your question, I'm not sure if you are asking what to enter in the "SMTP server port" box on the setup screen, or where to find out what port to use. So, I'll answer both questions ;-) The default SMTP server port is 25. If you don't enter a value in the "SMTP server port" box, it will default to 25. You can almost certainly leave it blank. I suggest leaving it blank and trying it - if it doesn't work, no harm done. However, if you want to check which port Outlook is using, question 6 on the following page tells you how to find out which port Outlook is using: http://postmaster.aol.com/faq/port25faq.html Russ |

I have just downloaded Panic Button from the ComputerActive website, and am attempting the manual configuration. As a comparatively mediocre computer user, where can I find the entry for "SMTP server port"? I am using Windows XP Home SP2 and Outlook for emails, but I can use Outlook Express if necessary. I would appreciate anyone's help. |
