Is a central authority needed in a "swarm offensive"? Yes, to some degree. This is a common misconception about [Open_source]. To the extent that an ideal is held, it is necessary for an individual to hold the integrity and center of that ideal, constantly corralling stray forces back to the vision, otherwise [Entropy] will eventually win, the center (or "hoop") will be broken, and the dream will die.

IOW, It is posited that all life tends towards a unified Harmony and this implies a symmetry of some sort. To hold a symmetry, some intelligence is required to hold the center of it -- however loosely.
