Cutting to the chase, I can't maintain a VNC connection. When I press Connect, I see
Connecting...
then
Handshaking...
then a pause and
Connection Lost!
The Palm VNC console contains the following:

Here's the backstory:
I'm running PalmVNC 2.0.6-dev on a Treo 650 running
Treo650-1.14a-SPNT software, over PCS Vision.
Connecting to a Macintosh PowerBook G4 running
Mac OS 10.4.11., connecting to the Internet via
ComCast Cable Modem, through an Airport base station running Apple Base Station V5.7.
I've set up Sharing to enable Apple Remote Desktop, and
have added VNC to the list of Services, enabling ports 5900-5902. I have Firewall enabled, without logging or Stealth Mode. Internet Sharing is off. I configure IPv4 using DHCP and Distribute IP Addresses, sharing a single IP address using 172.16.1.1 addressing. Appletalk is active. I have no proxies.
I have the Remote Desktop Privileges set so that "Guests may request permission to control screen" and "VNC viewers may control the screen with password: XXXX".
Using the Airport Admin Utility , I set up the Port Mapping to map Public Port 5900 to Private Port 5900 through Private IP Address 172.16.1.n, the number I get back from the IP Widget for the en1 interface.
In PalmVNC, I've set up my Connection to Server IP Address xx.xx.xx.xx, the number I get back from the IP Widget for the WAN (external) interface. I set the Display Number to 0, and the password to XXXX as above.
I made sure that the Scale was 1:1, and the Base port 5900, and that Enable desktop sharing was checked.
All this set, I press Connect and the problems above ensue. I don't see what I've done wrong, so I'm putting this down as a bug. If I've overlooked some detail that will let me fix it easily, please let me know.

Somewhere else I've found the info, that PalmVNC doesn't work with ARD - some problems related to the initial handshake. If you use the free VINE vnc server on your Mac, PalmVNC should work: http://www.redstonesoftware.com/products/vine_server/OS_X
