Hi Dave,

 That did the trick I installed MacPorts and their version of cairo (v1.10)
and removed the fink version of cairo (v1.8) I had installed two days ago.
Then unpacked the pairoscope tarball again and rebuilt the application as
per the instructions and now the error message is gone and the plots still
look great.  Thanks for the help.
